The Steve reference on Max walking seems to fit alot better than the one in models 6 and 7, it seems like something they insisted upon from Nelvana aswell as 8 and 9 where Max's mouth becomes wider than his face.

I feel like either walking style is suitable for Max. Somehow the Nelvana style makes him seem more slick but still cutely menacing. As for the mouth I think it was just to give Max more flexibility when it came to animating him. It was all for animation purposes. Then again Purcell's design is meant more for his comics of course.

There ya go! I think that'd be all ya need to get started drawing both of them.
I'd recommend inverting the sketch references (as in, flip white to black and viceversa) because it looks a lot clearer that way
