Eversion Challenge

edited October 2010 in General Chat
I have recently played a small freeware game called Eversion. It was an interesting journey. Now, I would like, if possible, to see other's reactions to it. If anyone wants to, please play through the game (it's only about an hour long, a bit longer if you get stuck on an obstacle/try to get all the gems) and have some way of documenting it, whether it would be notes, a Youtube video and voiceover, or a Livestream with chat. No one has to do this, but the game is quite... interesting. Two rules:

1.You must NOT know anything about the game before playing.
2.You, as previously stated, must have some way of documenting your reaction to the game as you go along.

One more thing: Don't play this game if you are Seibert.

Download Link: Official site Mediafire mirror (It's safe, trust me.)

So far:
6 people have took the Challenge(Comrade Pants, Giant Tope, jmm, Ashton, ted12, GuruGuru214).
3 have dropped out while playing(ShaggE, JedExodus, caeska).
1 person has yet to play(Alcoremortis).

Most "Effective": Comrade Pants, Ashton.

Got pissed off with it halfway through, at the same place ShaggE gave up i'd wager.
I hate to be one of those guys but I called it, I knew it would get all creepy etc, and the gameplay itself was difficult yet bland. I checked the ending out on youtube what can I say, I wasn't fussed

I think I fixed the problem.
Made an edit to the "13 or over" thing, but still posted a warning for "some people".

    Creepy and disturbing.
A bit unforgiving at times and in some places you can actually get stuck.
The final was a bit predictable, anyway...

    Verdict:
A good remedy to cure 10 year olds from their Super Mario platform games addiction.

Please edit your post to the above or something similar. But, this challenge seems to be in it's final moments, anyway.

I'll spoil my post so nobody gets upset...

Woah... just WTF several times over.
First, it would be nice for there to be a manual. I almot quit the first time because I couldnt figure out how the eversion button worked, literally by accident I figured out about he background changes...

Slightly scared me when We went from "happy day" down down down to "Hell" (and makes me seriously wonder what the background story for this game is... clearly it's sick and twisted)

the Ending suprised me, and made me chuckle the first time as he was (presumably) eaten. I decided to collect the gems in hopes of getting a better ending... I was sorely dissapointed when I crossed that final flag after probably an hour JUST getting the last 5 gems on that final level, to get the SAME ending

For a while I thought it was a case of "Failure is the only option" but I saw notes on the site about a "good" ending and about a new eversion point after completing the game with 100% gems.

I acctually enjoyed the last level, as "Hell" was restored all the way to "happy day" feeling like this was going to be a Karma thing "well you undid your evil so you get a happy ending"

I was suprised when the ending started out the same with the monster (afraid it really WAS a case of "failure is the only option"), but I figured he was just going to defeat her or something one hellova plot twist when he too turns into a monster and they fall in love... I was agast and laughing too. Awesome way to still have an "Evil" ending that is "happy" at the same time.

Thanks for posting the link, ringmaster, fun game. a bit... trying... at times, but fun!

    EDIT:
took me around 3-4 hours to get 100% completion, though I did stop and walk the dogs, eat, etc during that, so to be conservative, 2 hours... maybe 3 at worst. Short and Sweet (well... short... ;) lol)

I think the game took me about 30-45 minutes to beat.

yes. im one of those people who HAS to collect everything.

I'll give the game a shot! It can't be that bad!
EDIT: Level 1+2-This isn't so bad!
Level 3 What the bleep is that?
EDIT 2: Level 4+5 Maybe I shouldn't be playing this so late at night...
  • edited October 2010
It bothers me how good I've become at world 6. I got about half the gems in world 7 and quit for the night. I don't really feel like putting in the amount of effort required for world 7 at 5:30 am.

You should always heed these warnings. That said, this was a fun game and I didn't find it all that bad. Played until world 6 and called it quits, kept dying to stupid obstacles.

I was going to play Eversion today, but my computer refuses to show me more than lines and lines of code. Does this game only work on PC?

If so, I think I'll have to wait until Thanksgiving to play it because then I will have my regular gaming PC on hand.

Yes. It says on the offcial site that it's made for Windows and WINE.

Well, I guess I'll have to wait until I reunite with my PC. Or, until I install Windows 7 on my Mac. Whichever comes first.

I love Eversion. I think it's my favourite freeware game. I've played it so many times that when i bought the updated version, I noticed all the parts where the level design had been altered.

It also changed the music to the last eversion, which took me by surprise
and terrified me. I've played it enough times that it's not scary anymore, but I wasn't desensitised to that music
    .

I also made a music video. It's me dying on level 6, while Twilight Eternal from Sam & Max plays. Level 6 six is pretty far in, so spoilers.

I can't do the challenge since I know the game inside out, but here are some bullet points:
    • The X-1 music is irritating, but for some reason I really love the X-3 music.
    • I played the game because I'd heard it was creepy, and by the time I got to level 3, I was wondering how it was supposed to be so scary.
    • Then the darkness came.
    • I suspected something at the start of level 4, when everything was back to X-1 and there was a single box above me, but I really didn't expect its eyes to fall out.
    • I wish I could remember my reaction to the hands. But I can't.
    • It took me forever to realise that the X-6 music was a distorted version of the X-2 music, but when I did, X-6 got even creepier.
    • What happened to my score? D:
    • WHY ARE THE GEMS SKULLS
    • Ready!
    • To die.
    • I really hate that wall of blood that shoots out demonic hands. It's annoying. It killed me so many times that it stopped being scary long before the rest of the game.
    • I remember once I got up to X-1 on level 7, the X-1 music actually sounded comforting.
    • I knew there were multiple endings, so I was really confused and disturbed when I got the bad ending despite getting all the gems.
    • The X-8 music is probably the creepiest in the game.
    • The hand in X-1 at the end of the game is probably the thing that stayed the creepiest for the longest time. Especially since I kept forgetting it was there. THIS IS X-1. YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO APPEAR IN X-1, HAND

Sorry if that was incoherent. I was a bit tired.

Actually, what "helped" you was that I already told you the ending through PM a few days ago.

he was O.K i guess (he is 14).

    I think the endings
are more creepy if you've been playing through the game before you see them. I suspected a trick, but I didn't know what it was, so I found them creepy. Not the third one, though.

    Being the

individual I am, I'm going to cross-post this challenge to another forum or two to see the results. If anyone's curious I'll post the most amusing reactions

That would be awesome. Please post the "best" reactions. Also, please edit the "

    " and the "

" out of your post. I'm tryng to keep the whole "NO INFO" thing a constant throughout the thread.

The inspiration for this thread was a video I made about 2 weeks ago(here). It was a Request video for YouTube user Davidr64yt to play Eversion. Just yesterday, he posted these to his channel(Eversion Pt. 1 and 2). Don't watch the videos if you haven't played Eversion.
