The Future.

Guys, the future totally needs to be cyberpunk. I mean, it's just a thought; but it would be much better than a Mad Max style future. I doubt any one has any reasonable alternatives.

Yes, I'm on a Perfect Dark and Blade Runner binge, what of it?

I prefer Ghost in the Shell's image of the future to Blade Runners if it must be cyberpunk. However, I'd prefer a mix of cyber and steampunk leaning toward steampunk. Something like, we have all the technology but we change the style of our architecture, vehicles, clothing, culture, etc. back to that of the 1800s-1950s, with a tasteful mix of styles. And lots and lots of Victorian streetlamps.

You just want to confuse the hell out of anyone attempting to travel forward in time, aren't you? "Oh, shit, we went the wrong way!"
  • edited November 2010
No, with a future like that nobody would ever need or want to time travel at all.

I meant anyone time traveling forward to that future.

Fawful's could work, actually. If it's Steampunk, though, can we have it be more like retropunk? I want to see art deco androids. Every home must have one.

How about a mix of steampunk, retropunk, cyberpunk, biopunk, pulps, space opera, spaghetti western, gaslamp fantasy, and noir.

That sounds like a future of AWESOME.

I had a comic book idea once:

In the future, one-third of the world will be Retropunk, with some subculture. There will no longer be Goths and Emos, but Bios and Cybers. Bios are people who use excessive recreational genetic engineering to their own bodies. They can range from change of skin tone to extra limbs. Cybers are those who enter the cyber-world directly with their brains, using built in USB ports they can get at the port parlor.

A common conversation about them would be:
Suzy: Mom, can I get a USB port for my head?
Suzy's Mom: No, Suzy, you're too young.
Suzy: But everyone in school's got one!

Another one-third of the world will be Steampunk, with Dieselpunk and Clockpunk as their subculture. These people refuse the use of electricity, and religiously believe that its usage is blasphemous. Of course, the Steampunk people do not see eye to eye with the Retropunk people.

The rest of the world blew up and is now Post-Apocalyptic. There be mutants and zombies in this one.

Of course, by future, I mean December 2010, because this all takes place on an alternate Earth, where space-commies try to invade America-Earth.

The only thing you just said that didn't inherently bug the crap out of me was noir.

Blade Runner future FTW. But it would mean that it would be always dark. =(

Sunlight: overrated? A surprising new study finds that it is! Incidentally, I think I might hang out with goths too much.

Bah, give me some teleportation devices, a device to generate food from topsoil (it has to be delicious, mind you), and x-ray glasses and I'll wear clothes or act the way you want me to.
