Poker Night at the Inventory Never Starts

My game when I click play starts by "performing first time setup... Installing: Microsoft DirectX for Windows(Step 1 of 1).
It does this for awhile and then nothing happens. The game never runs. If I click play again it starts the whole process over.

SPECS:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
Intel Duo Core 2.26 GHZ
4 GB RAM

Better yet... when I go into my 'C:\...steamapps\common\poker night at the inventory' folder and click on CelebrityPoker the game won't start and tells me I'm missing d3dx9_41.dll

    Have you tried running the DirectX updater manually?

    Directx Updater crashes... not looking forward to doing a reformat and reinstalling my OS as I have heard is necessary under such conditions...

    I'm getting the exact same problem as OP. Is there a solution for this yet?

    I had a similar case recently.
    It was a problem with the DirectX updater in general, which is also included in the games. He got it running by booting windows into safe-mode before installing the game.
