Direct X install check freeze up on Season 3 episode 3

The install keeps trying to check to direct x update (even when I click no) then hangs there indefinitely. Any resolution to this?

    Can I take a look at your DXDiag?

    Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
    Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

    Now click on the button that says "save all information". It will prompt you to save a file. Since I cannot receive attachments, I'll need you to cut and paste the contents into this form for me.

    The system is stable but when it gets to this one part in the installation, it just hangs there and goes no further. So far it has been a half an hour and it hasn't done anything.

    What happens if you download and run the directx updater individually?

    Can you run dxdiag again and see if you can get the

    part?
    If not, please state your Windows and Service pack version.

    Yes, DirectX 9 is correct. DirectX is modular, and you need to have different versions for different games. Sadly Windows 7 doesn't come with the latest DirectX 9. That's why DirectX needs to be updated for DirectX 9 games to run properly.
    If you want to know the details, you can read this awesome post TTGs Seg made once.

    If Microsofts DirectX updater hangs too, than there must be some other problem.

    It is possible that some other software interferes. I would try it again during a clean boot (see below).

    You can also try the full DirectX installer.

    Let's hope it works.
    I'll be away now for a few hours of sleep.


    Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:
    1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
    2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
    3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
    4. Select the Services tab
    5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
    6. Click Disable all
    7. Click on OK
    8. Click Restart.
    9. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

    After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

    1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
    2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
    3. Click Ok
    4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer

    The full installation of DirectX 9 seems to have gotten hung up again on the file d3dx9_37.dll.

    I took that advice about a clean install and took a step further and installed the games in safe more and it finally worked. I think it might had to with the fact that I couldn't connect to the internet. I still don't understand that the first 2 games installed fine but not the last ones. So strange.
