Download problem. Stuck at Direct X update.

I recently bought BTTF game and I got the Puzzle Agent game I downloaded it and ran the download to install. When installing the install wont get past the "Update DirectX" part of the download. I ran the install with the option of "Do Not Update DirectX" and again at the same time it tries to update DirectX and it wont go past that point.
I checked and I have Windows Vista with DirectX10 installed and working properly. I thought maybe it was the Puzzle Agent game, so i downloaded Sam and Max demo and again got the same issue.

Can anyone help me?
I don't want this to happen with the BTTF game.

    I also want to know - sorry to hijack your thread - is why does the installer ask if we want to check for updates, if we state no, it still checks and updates regardless?

    that was one of my questions as well. i tell it "NO" and it checks anyways and gets stuck!

    There was a similar issue here.
    Please try installing the game in Windows safe mode.
