Doc and Edna (Spoilers!)

edited January 2011 in Back to the Future
I thought it was pretty ominous that at some point Doc was sort of... seeing Edna in a new light o.O

Is this going to be a new thing to fix in the subsequent episodes? What do you think?

    I did notice that also,
but other than that I think it was Edna who burned down the speak easy. She
just seemed too satisfied with it happening and the way she was trying to justify Docs involvement in it

It's also interesting to note that Einstein attacked Edna several times without being provoked. Either Einstein just doesn't like her personality(understandable) or he knows something Marty doesn't.

and doc said she totally freaked out in the 60s when the hippies came, so yeah, i think its possible, guess she's crazy enough

    In 1986, she's reading George Orwell's 1984. I think she's plenty crazy. >_>

If you look at the Double Visions icon, it's Edna and it mentions Marty and First Citizen Brown needing to team up to prevent young Doc from making a big mistake, which probably means going out with Edna, but that's just a guess.

Well, it's one of the mistakes Young Doc will make I guess, the other one being - THE LAW :) Though, knowing TellTale they'll make Edna a more sympathetic character and will make us feel bad for doing stuff to her to prevent the 1986A from happening.

Doubtful anything will make me sympathetic to someone who not only reads 1984, but acts somewhat like Hill Valley's own "Big Brother". I fully believe that that will be her role in 1986A, sort of as the "snitch" with First Citizen Brown enacting the law. Marty will have to use the notebook(assuming it doesn't disappear as I believe the time machine will) to rekindle Emmett's interest in science. That's my guess anyways.

I think its more likely that she ends up STEALING the time machine...

I guess I missed it, but where in her apartment is the copy of 1984? Or did she mention it in some dialogue (that I also must have missed)?

It's visible in two instances. The first is in a shot of her when Marty is talking to her from the street. The second is a little more "obvious" if you click on everything like I did lol. It's sitting on the table by her chair, right next to the candy that Marty says looks as old as he is. :p

I actually believe she will end up on the other side of the '1984 spectre' so to speak. One thing BttF is about is how not only the future of someone, but his personality and beliefs can be vastly different depending on their experiences in life and what they got through, even if both variants sprang out from the same source. Whatever Edna will be in 1986A, I'll find it more interesting dramatically if she's quite the opposite of herself in the original 1986, because, in my opinion, having her remain as a 'snitch' is kind of predictable and not really worth exploring.

I dunno. I get what you're saying, but I think Old Edna will be the villain of episode 3 and maybe 4. She'll be like the Emperor to Doc's Darth Vader. So to speak.

As far as changing personalities, it might be interesting to have Biff actually help you for once. I think this might be what happens, especially because he would be suffering the most out of all the regular characters in a 1984-inspired universe.

I do agree wholeheartedly, I bet that 1984 novel was put there on purpose to foreshadow the games to come, just like there were things in BTTF2 that foreshadowed what would happen in BTTF3.

I think Doc and Marty and the end of Episode 2 will go back to 1986 with the world under rule by "First Citizen Brown." The initial meeting of Doc and Edna as well as the subsequent invitaiton of Edna's social group at the Brown residence will have an effect on Emmett Brown's future. Young Emmett will be maneuvered into the "pro-temperance" movement of Edna's and will become "First Citizen Brown."

I was honestly thinking it's a reference to Day of the Tentacle.

(Doc) Fred Edison and (Nurse) Edna. :)

Actually, I thought of this when we first learned the episode titles, and that's still an aspect I'm willing to explore.

That would be an interesting flip side of the coin.

Another question would be, is First Citizen Brown REALLY in power, or is he just a figurehead for Edna Strickland. From the titles, it does seem like that prospect is in the mix.

The art for Episode 4 shows young Emmett trying to choose between science and the law (standing between a pile of law books and scientific instruments), but the icon for that episode is young Edna. So it could go either way.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how Double Visions turn out, but of course, first things first, we have to get threw Get Tannen! and deal with Kid Tannen before we see how the 1986A is.

I am thinking that the big change in 1931 with young Emmett was him falling in love with Edna and not becoming a recluse and spending all his free time trying to invent time travel. So they marry and her world view influences him to start the new Orwellian society of Hill Valley. Someone who has the potential to make time travel possible could turn it outwards and change the world order right? BTW I was thinking that the episode four icon was Clara but that was before I played the game and saw Edna.

BTW what will Mr. Strickland's role be in 1986A? I am thinking the head of their take on the Thought Police or something like that.

Speaking of Clara, does anyone think she and the Brown children will appear in this game? No I don't think so either. But after Doc mentioning that the boys are preparing for college I did have to realize that he has to be at least 88 or even 90 now. That body renewal in 2015 really does work doesn't it? Can't wait in four years! YES!!

Will we see Miss Prettywhiskers in the game?

Does anyone here think that this is going to be another running gag fromt he trilogy? You know, with the woman being assertive (almost predator-like) while the man is a wimp/shrimp/shy person? Also, I think I have an explanation on how Emmett becoming romantically entwined with Edna and 1986 falling into a tangent as a result. Doc Brown has a big personality and Edna has a big personality. There's an old saying that joining two people with pronounced personalities can be rather explosive. Plus, Doc and Enda would be one great power couple.
