BTTF e01: Game won't start a new game on my pc

"Faulting application backtothefuture101.exe, version 2010.12.21.51872, faulting module backtothefuture101.exe, version 2010.12.21.51872, fault address 0x001573e4."

That's the error windows event viewer had given me. I have a Windows XP Media Center PC with Service Pack 2. I'll try to update to Service Pack 3 and try again later. Video card is an ATI x1950 XTX 512mb and process AMD Athlon 5200 with 4 gigs ram.

    I just installed Service Pack 3 and it did not fix the issue. The game title screen loads but when I go to play the game after new game is when it crashes.

    Okay I followed the advice of other posters here, the problem is with the shadow's setting. When I lowered the shadows to level one, the game now runs.

    I was getting the same type of error trying to load the launcher on W7 32bit. My solution was to set Compatibility Mode to Vista SP2.
