Ah Crap, we are getting a 3rd live-action chipmunk movie

edited December 2010 in General Chat
My cousin who is a frequent reader on the animation site cartoonbrew.com, has spoken to me last night on what he told me what was being shown for animated films. And the one thing that he said to me made me not only shiver with disgust but also made me foreslap myself completely. A 3rd live-action Chipmunks movie has been announced.

here's the source if your wondering, I dont even go onto this site.
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/preview-2011-american-animated-features.html

My reaction does not approve of it.

I knew that they were going to end up doing three when the first one was released, in fact, I'm pretty sure IMDB had a page for it when the sequel had just been announced.

Knowing Leplay's disliking since the way he mentioned this, he's not going to see it. But I know two types of people who will see this. Kids, and their parents who are being forced to watch this crap.

You see being forced to see a movie for your kids.
    I see free naptime.
That is unless your kids get thirsty fast and go through that drink, then I see it as exercise and wallet spring cleaning.

Wait, you guys didn't know already? I've been waiting for Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D since, like, the beginning of this year.

Release was supposed to be Christmas this year, but they delayed it to Christmas next year. Or something.
  • edited December 2010
Well, I managed to avoid being in the "forced to see it" category for 2, so I hope the same thing happens for the third.

How is it free if you have to buy the ticket? >.>

    Yeah, this is old news.
I actually just re-watched these movies over the holidays. You can kinda see the script quality of the cartoon series to cgi movies degrading from Alvin to the Squeakquel to Yogi bear to (shudders) the Smurfs. Hopefully Alvin 3 will be more akin to the original.
    Hopefully... but not likely :P

In all honesty, most originals are shite when you look at the storylines.

I mean, compare the Scooby-Doo movies with the original television series. Sure, in comparison to the movies they weren't as good, but still they were enjoyable.

People shouldn't nostalgia too much when watching movies. It makes people look like freaking movie snobs.

If I were to ever make a Captain N movie, I'll change it around. A lot. You know, since the original was actually pretty shite. Despite the fact that I'm still a sort of fan of the series.

Apart from Tintin (and I'm only saying that because I never really watched Tintin's cartoons because they were BORING to me, also the 3D models actually look plausible on this one), all upcoming animated movies that that site listed out are complete bullshit. Sequels are redundant and unneeded continuations of already largely disliked movies. Original ideas either consist of 80s nostalgic cartoon characters, whose stories were NEVER meant to follow one single story for 80 minutes, turned buttfugly with 3D rendering; OR plain family comedy/grouping of randomass hip animals (wtf is with that rabbit and his earbuds?), being also buttfugly. Hell, the reason why they're trying to dig up nostalgic cartoons from their glory days to today is because they are incapable of starting a good franchise so that they can at least have the money of the manchilds craving for nostalgia. Yet they'll fail at it since the premise of the movies that they're showing to people by trailers or early artworks are TOTALLY unimaginative and only shows the viewers that those people are untalented, lazy storytellers. Smurfs in Manhattan, well, fuck you. It's not hard to imagine that you'll also make Smurfs bump into some backalleys so that Papa Smurf can be Smurfette's pimp and Strong Smurf can buy himself some steroids from crooks. That premise can disgust away the most ridicilously blind fanboy.

Please, nobody kill me, but I didn't think the first one was that bad. The second one was absolutely terrible though and it's only redeeming quality was Zachary Levi.

Well I am more afraid of the third live-action Transformers movie.

I know a few people who mention this as they call it "guilty pleasure". Didnt anyone see the first chipmunk movie The Chipmunk Adventure? I heard that was somewhat good, but I've never see it.

Y'know what? To heck with all y'all! :) I kinda liked the first two films. They were far from perfect, but they were at least enjoyable.

You just had to remember that they were kids films.

They were not made for you. They were not made to be 100% faithful to the original cartoons. They were designed to take an old franchise, modernise it and entertain children.

And they could have been so much worse then they were. Remember the first poster, with the chipmunks in their 'gangsta' poses? Remember how horrified we all were? But they were smarter then that. Instead we got a film with a bunch of actually very impressive CGI'd characters messing around and being... well, like kids. And it wasn't bad. It wasn't fantastic, but it could have been a trainwreck, and it wasn't. So yay.

And then the sequel came and did it again. Sequels have a history of being awful. And while The Squeakuel (heh, I always liked that name) wasn't as good as the first one, which itself wasn't amazing, it still wasn't all that bad. Kids loved it, and I should know - I saw it with my cousins, who really enjoyed it. As did I, to a degree. It was cute.

So yeah. Third one's coming. Not at all surprised. Don't think it'll be terrible. Hope they get Jason Lee back, but can live with it if they don't. Probably won't see it in the cinema, but may catch it at some point. And I will probably like it.

EDIT: Wikipedia says the third film will be called Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked, which is... interesting.

i liked the first one, but the second one was sh*t
  • edited December 2010
I haven't seen either, but I think that the second one had the only good version of All The Single Ladies ever.
  • edited December 2010
I think neither of those were even in cinemas in Germany. Well maybe it isn't too bad here after all.
  • edited December 2010
I actually really loved the two movies. Given, storyline-wise, the second one wasn't that good, but I don't watch Alvin and the Chipmunks for the animation or for the storyline. I watch it for the songs.

And it made me realize that I in fact do like Katy Perry's songs. Or at least Hot 'n Cold. And that you should never cover Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). Unless you are really good. And I don't mean decently good, I mean Beyonce good. Which the Chipettes really aren't. Not that they aren't good, they're just not Beyonce good.

I agree. And I think Maimtrons were better than "Beyonce good".

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoOooooooo...
    *DEEP BREATH*
    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

But seriously! they had to make another one!!?
(I still have nightmares from the first one.... :X)

If they make this one any worse, I'm afraid that an evil this intense could tear the very fabric of the space-time continuum.

    And Yogi.
    And Garfield.
    And possibly Smurfs.
Flinstones too but they weren't CGI.
    Underdog wasn't, also.
I've never really liked Scooby Doo to begin with.

Oh, great. I can just picture it now.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squ3aqu3l: Great Music Comes in 3s!

As long as we're not getting Yogi Bear II: The Yogining.

How about Yogi Bear II: Smarter Than The Average Sequel.

I've no interest in the Yogi Bear film whatsoever, but I swear, if there is a sequel, and it is called that, I WILL GO AND SEE IT.

Even after what I said earlier... I must admit I have had to see much worse movies with the kids than these movies.

Well it only sucks if it gets too much popularity (and ads, for that matter) and if you actually get dragged into seeing it.

But hey, Cars 2 and a new Winnie the Pooh? Damn, Winnie's gonna be Toy Story 3 all over again. Nice to see a classic handrawn animation movie.
