Would anyone like to play Minecraft?

edited March 2011 in General Chat
Hey all, I'm sure everyone is aware of minecraft now, the time consuming game that eats up your whole day (I mean that in a good way!)

I've seen a few people make a private server and make awesome cities and the like, and was wondering if anyone here would like to form a small team and have some fun on minecraft?

Any takers?

I haven't actually played the game yet, I'm ashamed to admit!

A Telltale Minecraft server? Sure, why not? (Minecraft; It's like cocaine without the high.)

Haha so true, picking away at rock and ore in the game is like popping bubble wrap, you cant stop!

Only hitch is I personally cannot host as either I'm incompetent, or my router hates it and decides to reset itself whenever I open any ports for hosting servers.

Anyone fancy making a fancy-shmancy TTG minecraft server?

I played Minecraft once and failed to find anything fun about it. It baffles me that people like it, maybe I just didn't play for long enough. Maybe it just annoyed me that you couldn't see past your nose at night (Human eyes do not work that way!) But something about it really turned me off. If I could play it again (It was free for a weekend) I'd try it for a bit.

Or I could just share my account... *whistle*

I can understand how some people don't see the fun in it, it's not every ones cup of tea. Although about not seeing past your nose at night, are you sure it was a graphics bug? I can see just as far as I can at daytime as well as night time on it, albeit just darker graphics.

I couldn't se anything at night but the ground I was standing on. No torches, nothing around me, just darkness and the sky. I could see everything during the day. I admit the cube moon was amusing.

Yeah, Minecraft doesn't do any fancy HDR rendering, but maybe you need to adjust your monitor if you can't see anything at night. You should be able to see well enough to navigate by moonlight. (EDIT: Did you try and turn on a flashlight with the F key? That toggles viewing distance, and fog is black at night. Shorten the viewing distance enough and you won't see anything.)

I've already got a multiplayer server I'm on, but I highly recommend the experience. Multiplayer is very different from single-player, and a much richer experience (even without enemies, which produce a lot of lag and are disabled on the server I play on).

I'd be down with a Telltale minecraft server! :D

I'll work on making a dedicated server tommorow, if no one else has. Lets get this thing going!

Can we have a rule of: Don't be a douchebag?

Fawful's now banned from the Minecraft.

Back on Fretcraft (on a certain spriters website), we had the rule "Don't be a dick".

I just hope that wasn't directed at little ol' me... *innocent look here*

No, I just don't want people to just flood the place with lava 24/7. It's just not fun.

I'd be willing to host now if people feel like joining? It would have to be on a hamachi server (a small free program that creates a virtual LAN)

I still cant seem to get my ports sorted out (changing most settings on my router figurativley make it explode and reset its settings to default and decide to stop working for an hour)

Let me know if you are interested to play now!

    Download hamachi here:
    https://secure.logmein.com/UK/products/hamachi2/download.aspx

    (Choose unmanaged mode, it's free)

I'm interested in playing now, but I'm curious as to how this works.

The server is up and running, I have just spawned and everythings all brand new and ready to play!

Anyway, Hamachi is basically a program where one guy creates a server on it, which when other users connect to it, the two computers see eachother as if they were over a local area network. Don't worry, I cant see your files and you cant see mine, my server will just be used for connecting to minecraft with.
I'm using this for now because I'm having trouble hosting over the web, and no one else seems to be able to host.

PM me once you have it installed and I'll message you the details!

    Did this die already?
  • edited January 2011
    No, it's still running :)
    I'll message you the details

    Is the server up?
  • edited January 2011
I can't actually connect to minecraft so I can't run the server, I think notch is having server overload issues :(
I'll host tomorrow for sure, and I'll work on making the server 24/7

I've got Minecraft now... well OK I've had it a while now... so what Texture packs are you using?
  • edited January 2011
I'm quite partial to the doku rpg texture pack.

also, notch is shiftin things around, so servers are wonky.

I feel like i'm missing out when I hear people talk about this game. But dammit I still insist it isn't for me, no matter how wrong I may be!

Looks like things are now back.

To drag this thread out of the Nether before a Ghast finds it, here's something I made this morning in Minecraft...
    StrongBadv2.png
...and a link to a blog post about a place me and my brother made on my server (Warning: it has a lot of pictures).

Edit: I managed to get the better Strong Bad I made by somehow fixing the world I made it on.
