Within Temptation sold out

Within Temptation has a new single out to their album which is going out in about two months.
Honestly, I don't like the commerical vibe the band is personally giving me. The music video to this song looks like some sort of cheesy movie advertisement. Reminds of me of that ad they did for a video game...The Howling...

*sighs* Commericality is the devil to me, this was my favorite band. I'm ok with them growing, changing. But they had such clean and pure, strong music. They had pure themes, almost religous and they were so awesome. Now they're all about becoming commerical for the bigger buck?
No, this being open minded blind fold people have tried to create is a load of crap. I'm not going to water down, tame my opinion. They have sold out, yes I word it that way. They have sold out!
I'm not going to let billion dollar corperations who only care about money disarm my opinions about my favorite band. A change in writting, anything, would have been acceptable, anything but this...The soul of the band has been raped by predators, blood thristy, money hungry predators and now it will be sucked dry, shamed, it's innocence entirely taken away!
Open minded my ass, it's a social construct that's it's obvious in nature to be open minded, consider both sides...when it takes way what's obvious right in front of our faces! It's a blind fold! They have sold out! It's common knowledge that I'm being oh so closed minded, when in reality, major consumers don't act on personal opinions, persons insights, all they see is MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!!!! People like us in reality are the only ones with a real damned opinion! Don't let major corperations who sell things out take that way from you!
This is the last straw!

Each song on “The Unforgiving” was written along O'Connell’s narrative, each based around the protagonists of the comic as well as each having their own individual style. Robert Westerholt described the album's sound as being a departure from Within Temptation's previous material.
The first single was "Faster", which had its worldwide radio premiere on 96.3 Rock Radio on January 21 2011.
On July 26, 2010, the band announced that they would be embarking on a European tour at the beginning of 2011 in support of their new release, however, due to Sharon den Adel's third pregnancy, the tour dates have been moved to Autumn 2011.
The Unforgiving is the fifth studio album by Dutch symphonic metal/rock band Within Temptation, released by Roadrunner Records on March 25, 2011. The concept of the album will be based on a comic book series, written by Steven O’Connell (BloodRayne & Dark 48), and illustrated by Romano Molenaar (Witchblade, Darkness and X-Men).

Okay, as a steady listener of the rock and metal genres I have to say I never really liked them. And I am indifferent about this issue. Their music wasn't all that religious or groundbreaking and now they want to tell stories of comic book nerds' wet dreams; I don't really see a difference. Gotta say the album cover is perfectly drawn, though. At least it serves its full purpose and much more to the idea it's drawn for.
I don't like the bands that think they're giving an idea to people. They're not prophets, they're not wise or anything. They know how to arrange music and how to play the instruments. They write their lyrics either by reminding their problems when they were schoolers and changing the aspects with extreme abstractism, or simply buy them from other people. But when you do that the idea you try to give out slowly gets the spotlight and decrease the importance of the quality of the SOUND of the band; which must have the top priority in any band. And Within Temptation, in my opinion, has a sluggish, slow, soulless and uninteresting style when it comes to the sound. Maybe they have a meaning behind it, but as I said before, I don't care, meaning is a sauce on the spaghetti and those noodles are damn dry.
I also don't believe the reason they acted like they were prophets wasn't money. People dig "meaningful" music. People like Nightwish, Opeth, etc...
Sometimes you just have to solve the problems by not caring them and just do what you do for fun, for achieving the happiness.
Leave Leave Brittney Girl alone!
I listen to it here and there. Let's not even get started on genre and metal, people have so many twisted ideas about what is what and what's poser and this and that and that and that...
I like wet dreams, I am a nerd, damn it!
Oh yeah, she's well drawn...takes me right back to wet dreams...wait, what? BOOBIES!!!
Anyways...yeah, well, yeah see I don't have a good argument for that and so I am humanizing myself with humor in a attempt to disarm you so that I can soften the blow whilst having no good counter argument... I have no problem with some one beliving what they sing, having REAL FEELINGS for their music though...do you think Sharen Adel is going to really have feelings for my NERD ORGASM!? Does this album come with role play photos from the band!?
SOUL LESS!? BAH HUM BUGGER ! This is soul-less she's is giving 110 percent! How can you call a 110 of the human soul soul less!? It's symponthy metal! How can any one say sympthony metal music has no soul!? She can barely sing anymore! She is giving it everything! This music is epic!

Or how about this!?
1:14 soul less!? What!?

Now Nightwish is more soul less in my opinion. Damn it, now I love this band again, damn!

4:15 soul less!? WHAT!? WHAT!?
How the hell does the song Memmories of Stand My Ground not have soul, feeling, energy! I mean it's not the Agonist but it's full of sound!

OMG! 3:20!?
This is a concept album. You can't judge the entire future of a band based on a concept album.
Besides, one of the things that separates WT from the pack is the obvious love for their craft, which becomes quite apparent during their concerts. I've never seen a band have so much damn fun just being on stage and performing. In light of that, it seems a bit presumptuous to yell "SELLOUT" just because of a weird video and a couple of radio-friendly singles. Hell, WT has done weird videos since the beginning, and every album since Enter has had one or two "safe" songs.
"Utopia" should have tipped you off that another big change was coming.

I seriously have to take a piss now so that I can do it in a toilet and not my pants!
DECIEVER OF HEARTS ! DECIEVER OF FOOLS! YEAHHHHHH!! Seriously, I got to piss!
Screw it ! I'm taking my laptop with me to go piss!
GOD those are a disgrace to metal music.
I didn't mean it's a nerd's wet dream just because it has guns and boobies (although the image itself is based on so many generic ideas I think they WANTED nerds to wet theirselves by looking at it, well, it's a nice pair of drawn titties tbh). A nerd may find an MMORPG of a comic book -which doesn't necessarily have comic book girl cleavage everywhere- wet dream-worthy. Just wanted to give an emphasis on what they're doing by making an OST to a comic book.
I also didn't try to offend you, if you are. But naah, you're a smart guy.
Just like a Family Guy satire.

I still do not think what they were previously doing reflects their real feelings... But I agree on the rest. It contradicts with the purpose of music. A fitting OST is gathered by browsing through old tracks (or recently released tracks, maybe, if the purpose is not only blindly milking their fame) to find something reflecting the meaning behind your storyline or a spesific scene in it. Actually making business with a widely known band and forcing them to write lyrics that would be said by OTHER people -that are NOT even real since they're comic book characters- that they do not fully understand is the recipe of a downfall.
Okay soo, the first one is a Celine Dion song with guitars and drums and the second one is a track in Matrix: Revolutions OST. Nothing I haven't heard before or impressive, I'm sorry.
I've been shamelessly advertising for this band in these forums for quite some time and I'm sorry, but I think, for example, Diablo Swing Orchestra does a better job at "showing some feelings". Okay, I know they're not even in the same genre, and maybe I'm saying that because I love THEIR feelings more than their music similar to how you do with your favorite bands, but it's an honest and legit comparison.
I belieeve I can flyyyyy... I belieeve I can touch the skyyyy....
Meh.
"This video is not available in your country."
And I thought we only ban good things here.
..dude...
Also ban'd. Weird.
At the risk of validating Doodo's ranting spree (seriously, what the hell, dude?)...
You did not just compare "Ice Queen" to a Celine Dion song. You, sir, are a bad man, and are uninvited from my birthday party.
I'm done pissing now, just to let you know that everything is going to be ok from here on through...:)
No, you're alright.
I'm not offended, I'm just being honest to my natural body/ mind. Damn it, why did you include the words wet and boobs in the same paragraph!? Actually most comic books I've own have big titties...ummm hmmm, big titties...interesting fact. Now, we're getting some where with this...but it's off topic.
Well, yes, there is that. Now, we're sharing the love, because I hadn't even originally thought of that...
Yeah, sure because I listen to Celine Dion and say, boy this sounds like Within Temptation! Doesn't it? Come on it's sympthony metal, oh God yes, I love it. Enough to try your link after I'm done feeling another page of this thread with giant walls of text that some sorry son of a gun has to read...
Yeah, fine, I'll try it, wait it's not the same genre? I'll still try it...oh god, it probably sounds like the back street boys on speed...
Do I have to reply to these comments as well?...meh. Physically, mentally there's only so many ways to express ourselves, whats wrong with singing pretty? Should it be like the Agonist? I AM THE ENEMY! lol
You are my new bestest friend...
@DoctorCello: Yeah, you're absolutely right, but this doesn't stop me from being a totally likable ass.
@doodo!: I assume my differentiation of opinion simply comes from my personality after all, like how DoctorCello put it out (but I still don't know what you find in Ice Queen, it's so uninteresting and expectable). Glad you like DSO, though, it's the basis of my totally annoying optimism and horrific ego. I like them.
@ShaggE: You know, today I commented on one of the Youtube videos of DSO (I assume it's the one of Balrog Boogie but the uploader wrote Ballrog Boogie for some reason) and there, I did call DSO as "Bizarro Nightwish". They're not emo, not scared of using different instruments in random parts, not scared of changing the tone of the song, it's a weird party from beginning to end. Completely the opposite of constant BAWWING and mystery of Nightwish. And this just made me love DSO more. You're welcome btw.
It took some doing...it took some doing...;)
I don't care if it's expectable, a great story is worth telling twice. It's got so much spirit in it. It levitates me, makes me float on water, sets a calm, that sort of thing...
uh...yes...??
um...no?? Where was I?
Oh, I was thinking about your optimism and horrific ego. I can't remember now what I was thinking...
lol...whatever, but DSO ...eh...yeah, you're fine. Wait? What? Why are you ..eh? Does not compute...
Yeah...what am I doing? I'm typing but I'm not making any sense, even to myself...
Oh well, I don't understand. Nevermind.
It never ceases to amaze me how a band can be a pure endorphin rush to one person and insufferable whining to another, and yet the same people can find a common ground in an entirely separate band. I love that about humans.
You might be interested in some of WT's "Enter" era songs, though. It's a lot heavier and faster.
And just because it's fun to annoy you: Ice Queen Acoustic Version and Believer (Ice Queen with different lyrics).
Can't forget the ladies...
Ah, much better, now neither of us is making any damn sense...
Thanks for covering for me...;)
I used to be a Libra, I'm still waiting for something to take effect...LOL I turned Believer off, just makes it didn't feel right. But I've heard the acoustic, it's different. Esp when you're watching Britney girl as you listen to the song in a minized window...
No, the acoustic version REALLY isn't for me...
I prefer WT over Nightwish strongly. I'm sad they're on rock band though...
But I don't want to get back to all this judgemental nonsense of what music is and isn't. The world is too full of severe/ critical judgements of music, esp the metal genre...
What do I care how popular they are? Hmm? I like their music, want to call me a poser now? I still like WT and I don't agree to or hold the same standards you do to base the quality of the band.
The hell with generlizations that are formed with music that becomes popular...I like my music. I don't care anymore, it makes life so uncomfortable and confusing to go through it pretending, hiding, from what you really like to listen to. Sure if I was exposed to more I may like it as well but saying this music is sub par is ridiculus...
There's only subjective standards here, there's no mathematical or logical solution here that states what a real metal band is or isn't. To hell with the purists how try to define to the rest of the world what a genre of music must be over the span of decades and decades of growth!
There's no one who says what a arist can or can not make, how they can or can not express thieselves! No one controls that and no one controls what I enjoy or don't enjoy. I don't care how obvious and apparent it might be that others enjoy the music, the generalizations such as being a poser are horrendous!
Better music? HA! Subjective standards, my rear!
In your opinion. Mother Earth's global ratings were/ are extremely high...see wikipedia for a example if you desire.
It was not as good as Enter but still a great album.
Oh, oops. I don't own Enter, didn't like it enough to buy it.
I didn't really like the 3rd album either but I just took it with a grain of salt and figured they needed some sort of refreshing material from there on. But...the third album also has/ had very high ratings globally...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heart_of_Everything
I do enjoy some of the third album of course...
You say "accessible" like it's a negative attribute. Symphonic metal used to be an extremely niche genre outside of Europe, but bands like WT and Nightwish helped spread the word. (although I'd be hard pressed to call WT anything resembling metal, or even symphonic, these days) Hell, they got me into it, and now WT is only one of many in their ilk that I love.
As for how "deep" they are, that's an extremely subjective issue. One man's trash is another man's etc.
But "The Heart Of Everything" is the fourth album.
Are you high?
LOL, no, same mistake as before, sort of. I just don't count the first album, I forget about it all the time. I don't own it. Anyways, it's a silly thing to get hung up on...The point is there, no need to go on about when they all came out.
Damn, I missed the big 3k post. No obnoxiously large celebratory line for me... lol
Who are you to say they sold out, then?!
I wouldn't say it's negative, necessarily. It's very easy to get into, and very easy to get over. It's like some generic candy. It doesn't mean it doesn't taste good while you're eating it, though. It just means there are more 'complex' flavors out there. But hey, I always like my run-of-the-mill chocolate bar every now and then, too. Nothing wrong with that. Like I said, they're good at what they do, they ARE competent and their songs can be good for singalong sessions and such. But it's not landmark work. That's all.
Yes, you caught me in human error. Called me out on my own logic. No, really, I'm self defeated, so I can not defend anything in this case.
