Would I enjoy this...

edited January 2011 in Back to the Future
... If I've watched neither of the movies? I'm curious about this game, and am playing through The Devil's Playhouse lately, which shows just how much telltale has stepped its game on graphical adventures. However, I've never watched the BTTF movies, so I wouldn't know much of the backstory, so... Would I still be able to enjoy and play this?

Also, is the production on this (or the episodes that are out already) as good as that in The Devil's Playhouse? Better? Worse? (I've only played the first 2 episodes of the devil's playhouse, but I'll be playing the rest soon :P)

Thanks for answering :P

It'd be much better if you watch the movies first if you want to understand some plot points and various gags.

    No, watch the movies first.

Well, I think I can answer this. Leading up to release, I watched the movies. However, I didn't grow up with the movies and I didn't consider myself a hardcore fan. I don't think the game has much from the movies in it, other than the obvious things, such as the DeLorean, and no puzzles require you to have knowledge of the movies.

So... I think you would. Agreeing with the others though, I suggest you rent the movies. So much more will appeal to you.

It's easy to get the grasp of the game if you've never seen the movies. Most of the "how did we get from the end of the movie to this?" stuff is in optional dialouge. You'll get introduced to the characters throughout the game. As long as you know Doc and Marty are best friends, you should be fine (well, the opening cutscene may be confusing).

Is it better than The Devil's Playhouse? Hard to judge from one episode. It is easier, less funny, and short, but it's still fun. Since Sam and Max is my favorite adventure series ever, all other games dull in comparison in my mind :D

It's definitely a bonus having seen the movies - just the recognition of the allusions and gags is a blast.

Not that relevant to your case, but maybe every one of us can find this a bit helpful.

I watched all the films many times in my youth and even I didn't remember all the events referenced in the game. (I had forgotten about
the Delorean getting destroyed at the end of the third film
    for example.)

It's highly recommended that you see the films before playing the game. Otherwise you're just not getting the full experience.
