The Puzzle Agent Conundrum

edited April 2011 in Game Support
The graphics on my copy of puzzle agent are too good. so I went to settings, and prepared to change the graphics..... but I couldn't. There was no option to lower quality. one member assures me there is, but it doesn't show up on my computer. I've re-installed 3 times!

There isn't one, at least anymore. There may have been one pre-patch that caused graphics errors.

Puzzle Agent's never had a graphics settings option, because it doesn't do anything fancy enough to need them. :\

That wasn't good planning on your part:o
Granted this game isnt that demanding. Considering Ive played this on the computer that people described on this very forums as crap.

Crap does not equal unable to run a game like Puzzle Agent, it means a computer unable to run the latest videogames on the cutting edge side of things.

okay, okay guys. so it doesn't have a graphics option. (the employee lied to me) it just won't run well! it's just too slow! the same problem I easily fixed in BTTF, by turning down the quality. How can I make it run smoothly?
  • edited February 2011
g-guys?.... are you there? I need it to run faster. possibly there's another, more complicated way to get the graphics tuned down?
  • edited February 2011
Not really sure what else you can do, here. Are your video drivers up to date?

If you post the DXdiag stats for your machine, we might be able to advise you on further steps. To do that, do a search on your PC for a program called DXdiag, then run that program. Then click the button that says "Save All Information" to save the info in a text file. Open that text file, and copy & paste the info into a post.

Unfortunately, your PC probably isn't going to be able to run Puzzle Agent very well in it's current state. Here are the minimum specs for our current games:

    Minimum Specs
    OS: XP / Vista / Windows 7
Processor: 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent
    Memory: 2 GB RAM
Video Card: ATI or NVidia card w/ 256 MB RAM
    Direct X: Direct X 9.0c
    Audio card required

You could probably get away with slightly less than the above on Puzzle Agent, but your PC and video card both only have about half of the minimum amount of RAM. One thing that *might* help is if you update your video card drivers. Here's a link to the most recent drivers I could find for your card: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html Try downloading and installing them, and see if that helps.

If not, then your only options are to download and play the game on a more powerful PC, upgrade your current PC, or contact customer support for a refund. Sorry! :(

But if I upgraded my video card to play BTTF, why can't I play puzzle agent?

But if I upgraded my video card to play BTTF, your latest and greatest, why am I not able to play Puzzle agent?

You can run BttF Ep.1 & 2 well on this same computer? Based on your DXdiag, the machine is well below the minimum specs for those games. I assume you had to run it at very low settings?

In any case, I'd definitely recommend updating your video card drivers to see if that helps. It's a long shot, but it can't really hurt, either. You can also try restarting the machine, then playing Puzzle Agent before opening any other applications.

If neither of those ideas work, you'll need to upgrade your PC if you want Puzzle Agent to run better.

Just an observation here, and it may be way too obvious, but the animation is not meant to be smooth at all. Is the OP familiar with the Grickle style of animation?

No! The gameplay (and a few cutscenes) are slow! the game lags, and it took forever to solve the first puzzle because of this!

okay. I'm going to ask again, because this is getting REALLY tedious when nobody answers.
IF I CAN RUN BACK TO THE FUTURE, YOUR LATEST GAME, WHY AM I NOT ABLE TO PLAY PUZZLE AGENT?!?!?!

BttF and Puzzle Agent are two different games. Your PC being able to run BttF does not automatically guarantee that it can run Puzzle Agent. Again, you only have about 1 gig of RAM and 128MB of VRAM, both of which are about half of our min. specs.

Given that, it's not surprising that Puzzle Agent performs poorly on it (I'm surprised you can run any of the BttF episodes at all). If you want Puzzle Agent to perform better, you're going to have to upgrade your system to at least these min. specs:

    OS: XP / Vista / Windows 7
Processor: 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent
    Memory: 2 GB RAM
Video Card: ATI or NVidia card w/ 256 MB RAM
    Direct X: Direct X 9.0c
    Audio card required

If upgrading isn't viable for you, then I advise either playing the game on some other machine or contacting customer support for a refund.
