Anyone reading/watching now due to the announcement?

edited March 2011 in The Walking Dead
After hearing about the Telltale adaptation, I decided to check out the first few volumes of the comic, and I can't believe I haven't been reading this before. Anyone else having a similar experience?

ohhh.... I will not tell you what is about to happen but prepare your face muscles for this

I have been reading the books for a while now... I think it was about 6 issues in when I decided to check the books out.

I picked up the omnibus edition a few months back and enjoyed it, even if it was a bit too soap operaish and over expository for my tastes. Can't wait to see what telltale will do with the title.

I'm considering it; The series definitely looks interesting.

I started reading a few months back, and honestly I'd been told to get into it far before that. I think I got in due to the announcement of the TV series and the awesome names associated with that project, though I read through most of the comics before the first episode aired.

the ride still isn't done.... they really kicked the reader in the gut in some of those issues... but in a good way.. Damn I love those books.

Yeah, I actually decided to read them yesterday, and I'm already at issue 30. Definitely a very good dramatic story, and I'm very curious how Telltale plans to adopt this into a game.

People who are reading this just because of the announcement are reading it for the wrong reasons.

This is a silly ass statement. I personally was never familiar with The Walking Dead, and now that Telltale is making a game based on this license; it definitely piqued my interest. Now that I've started reading it; I'm hooked on the story like everybody else. Which is probably one of the reasons the creator was willing to allow a TV adaptation and a video game of The Walking Dead; to expose it to a new audience who then may in return go back to the original source and read the graphic novels.

I just started reading it yesterday (bought the first volume) and wooow..... I think I'm into comics again :) Seriously, I've waited a long time for a comic I could start reading without going through lots of back-story (I kinda hate superhero comics)...

This is absolutely ridiculous. It doesn't matter how you were exposed to something. Granted, I would hope that people who read and enjoy The Walking Dead will then go on to read OTHER Image comics, and gain a wider appreciation of graphic novels in general(specifically those not in the main "Superhero Pantheon" series), but any new readers for any reason is a good thing.

I agree. I read the Bone comics after I played the Telltale Games, and loved them. It doesn't make you like something less just because you were introduced to it in a different way from someone else.

That being said, I don't like zombies very much but I've decided to give the TV show a try before the game comes out just to see if the premise is something that I might like.

Agh, I beg you to try the comics instead. The TV show is beautiful and well-shot, but I don't feel like it's a good replacement for the comic at all. Specifically, there are some early character changes that kind of hurt the flow of it for me, and a lot of the show's changes are very varied in effectiveness(some are great, some aren't really good or bad, and some are just awful), and it's the comic book's universe that the game will be based off of anyway.

From what Ive seen from the show, Shane is still alive.
That sortof changed the flow and took away my favorite scene of Carl
    shooting him
which I should tell my therapist about.
And I have limited myself from one comic a day after reading up to comic 50.
The cliffhangers mean nothing if I can immediatly read the next one.

I've just finished Vol. 1 of the Omnibus. I'd been meaning to give it a read since before the TV show was even announced, but Telltale gave me a reason to fork out the money for it. I had a look at a synopsis for the TV series, but I'm not really interested in what they've done differently. I'm just curious to see if the game's going to follow the comic or the TV series.

    1. I think the TV series deserves slack. It's a great product overall with some amazing production values, and honestly I heavily support the TV show as a fitting supplement to the comics.

    2. An interview with Kirkman says it will take place in the comic universe.

I just watched episode one and was surprised by how good it was, so my interest is piqued. :D I'll keep watching the show, but I'll check out the comics too since, as you said, the game follows the comic book universe. :)

I'm going to start on the fifth volume right now. Really good comic book series, but I'm a tad bit disappointed that Tony Moore quit... His art was so amazing :(
I've also started reading some other comic book series (Fables and The Sandman) and they are phenomenal (especially Sandman). But I can tell that this hobby is gonna hurt my wallet...

I saw the show and loved it. I haven't started reading them yet though. The comic book store I got to has all of them though. They're split into diffrent books. Didnt' pick one up yet though but I will.

I just got the DVD yesterday, haven't started in yet, but I hear good things from my friends. I would've rather read some of the comic first though.

If at all possible, I'd try to read the first volume(first six issues) first. This isn't because the show is bad(the show is actually very good), but I think having read the portion of the comic that the episodes cover beforehand gives a greater context for the show, in a "Oh, I see what they did/are doing there!" sort of way.

Hey the comic series hit up to 82 comics as of right now right?

If so I am caught up with the comic:D
  • I started watching the show because a countless amount of people told me that it was really good, so I decided to check it out and to my surprise, I got hooked by the first episode. By the Second season, it became my favorite show. Season 3 and 4 really picked up the action and I don't see any show getting any better. I have yet to see Game of Thrones, I heard that was good and I saw the first episode of Breaking Bad. I don't think I'll finish it, the first episode wasn't enough to get me interested.

Soon after, I got the game. I didn't buy it or I never even wanted to play it, I just got it as a gift and I was surprised again at how good it was. I eventually got around to reading the comics and no surprise, they were good.

  • I started watching the show because A friend of mine on Facebook said it was pretty good.

I started playing the Game because I watched a random episode of it from Pewdiepie and said: "I'll do this myself."

I started reading the comics because I was already watching the show and playing the game.

  • I got into the TV show first. A friend of mine suggested it and I got hooked after one episode. That was when season 2 was airing. Being the obsessive nerd I am, I started reading the comics while I caught up with the episodes. So now I read the new issues and watch the new episodes as they arrive.

As for the game, I actually didn't hear about it until a month or two after S1 was finished. I had just graduated college so I didn't have a lot of time for video games. When I heard about it, I was like "A game for The Walking Dead? YES PLEASE." and played through the entire first season in about two sittings. I then waited impatiently for 400 Days and even more impatiently for S2.
