New to the Series- Help?

When I first heard the announcement of the series, I was curious and wanted to check it out, but I can't drive to the library, and my school library doesn't have any of the volumes.
So, can somebody give me the basic plotline of the comic series? I don't want to be left in the dark when the game comes out.

The game won't be out for another 8ish months, you know. That's plenty of time to find someone to take you to the library.

A VERY basic summary of perhaps the first "part" of the series(I dont know if this truly is in series, but I know I did feel like it did) is that its about a man named Rick, who on a case with his friend Shane, gets shot. He wakes up in a hospital 2 months later and finds out the Country is overrun by zombies. The thing is though is that he has a wife and son who he wants to know if ok, so he heads to Atlanta city to see if they are there. Im going to put spoilers from here on out, but it still is the begining of the story
at atlanta, he finds his it is overrun by zombies even worse than where he lived, but he is luckily saved by someone(crap I forgot his name) and he is taken to a camp, full of survivors, and his son, wife, and Shane. This Im going to stop here, but It does change up a lot, plenty of people die, they find more survivors. Meet many antagonists that try to kill them(the governor was a very good example.) and always are on survivor.

That is sortof the summary of the begining.
I am NOT summarizing any other part of the story.
But please remember it is NOT OMGWTFBBQZOMBIES!! There is a lot more to their way of survival.

    Thank, Gman.

    Your Welcome.
Like I said, we dont know when this exactly takes place, it could start there, or it could start where the last comic left out(which would be bad for us since there is about 81 comics, and I have read about 60 comics)
Speaking of which guys I read in an interview
the creator is planning on killing off Rick eventually to make it more realistic, that is sad to me

Also, The Walking Dead wikia is a good source of plotlines by issue of the comic book!
