A TF2 adventure game?

edited March 2011 in General Chat
Oh, look, another "Telltale should make a game based off this license I like that wouldn't make any sense!" thread. Just humor me, OK?

I love Team Fortress 2. Say what you want about its...recent changes, but I think it's still a fun FPS, and I especially love the style of it all. If the game played exactly the same but was just another brown military FPS (which it was originally going to be, I should add), I wouldn't have paid any attention to it. I love how everything looks like it was ripped from a cartoon. I love how each class has their own different (but equally dysfunctional) personalities. I like how there's apparently a big nonsensical backstory behind it all. What I don't like is how said big nonsensical backstory tends to only be occasionally hinted at. And that's fair, since an online FPS can't (and shouldn't) be about plot, but it would be nice if we could...explore TF2's lore more, I guess.

So anyway, what if Telltale decided to make a TF2 adventure game? They've already dealt with The Heavy before thanks to Poker Night. It could sort of focus on the classes and their personalities in a less action-oriented context, I guess.

Just a stupid idea I thought I'd share.

    I think I would enjoy a TF2 adventure game.

The TF2 team seems intent of fleshing out the characters and making a large backstory to the game. The humor and style fit well with Telltale's other games. However I don't think I would be able to handle another wave of TF2 fanboys whining about trading hats or belittling Telltale for using a Valve license.

So long as we get the answers to the eternal enigma which is Pyro then I am game. :D

I think a TF2 adventure game would be absolutely amazing, but only if handled in the right way by the right people. Telltale could be those people, but not if they take the BttF approach, which I'm afraid is something they might do to try and appease the more dumb-as-cheese portion of TF2 players.

And Jed, that Youtube thing looks awesome. I'll have to give it a shot when I have more time.

That isn't the first time I've seen the Heavy with Super Mario Galaxy music. It fits him well...
I want to see Super Heavy Weapons Guy Galaxy as an adventure game made.

I'm not sure a pure adventure game would match the TF2 spirit. Maybe if it was some kind of mix between an FPS and an adventure game... But that's crazy, isn't it?

    From Yahtzee's Orange Box Review:

Playing Sniper is a lot like an adventure game, except the only command is "Use Gun on Man"

I just tried this and it's quite fun! Unfortunately I suck at it and died 11 times. I'll play the next one later.

I'd probably play a TF2 adventure game if Valve, Telltale or someone were to develop it. The current story it has could probably be expanded on easily enough. I think it'd be cool if we could switch between characters at any point during the game (like you can in Bone) because then we'd get the backstory for more than just one of the classes.

Can't imagine there'd be a lot of fun dialogue when you're playing as Pyro, though. ;)

Yeah, they'll be some real struggles trying to get the pyro to comunicate with all the muffles XD
Though I do like the idea, heck if it was episodic we could get a whole story told through each classes... though that'd mean 9 episodes... that would also means getting Robin Atkin Downes to do voice work (The Medics actor) and he's hard to get hold of D:

You barely play as pyro, you actually play as the other classes through branching paths.

I personally think a Scout spinoff platformer would be better
