Ultimate Video Game Challenge
I've been thinking about hard games lately and I've been thinking.
What if, someone got all of the toughest videogames ever made and arranged some sort of challenge?
This idea kind of evolved from another idea I had, which was "The King of Fighting Games" (All of the best fighting games, a league of gamers, one or more mystery games to make things interesting).
Basically it could be sort of an event where players get together and try to get as far in the hardest videogames as possible.
Rules:
-Each player plays 10 mins -1 hour of a game (depending on the game)
-Progress is the highest scorer, followed by lives, then score
-Once all the players finish a specific game, each player is given a score which goes into an overall player table
-The winner is the one with the highest overall points
-To make it fair the consoles will be likely be mainstream ones
so Nes, Snes, Master System, Genesis, N64, Playstation, Sega Saturn (if enough people had them), PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii (And PC could count as well maybe)
(Older consoles could be taken into account as well (maybe as some sort of suprise bonus round!))
Handhelds I think probably wouldn't work, so they probably would be excluded.
-Each console has a maximum 3 representatives (not including bonus rounds)
so Snes would have something like:
-Super Ghouls'n'ghosts
-Battletoads
-Contra 3: The Alien Wars
(Note: There are probably harder games, its just that these came up as good examples)
Bonus rounds could include games that are not entirely hard, but may include a really hard section, boss rush (like Megaman X at the end), or extra tough difficulty set, or bonus boss (like Shin Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2 or 3).
I guess the hardest question about all this should be:
Which games should make the cut?
(Please share with me what you think are the hardest games, so then we could make some sort of table, then it people could use it with their friends)
So what do you think. Would you go to an event like this if one was planned, (I know I would! ).
EDIT: I think maybe, it could be a good idea to try to keep the games as mainstream as possible in the normal rounds, as well as start with the "easier" games first, (but the bonus rounds would mix it up quite a lot).
Maybe we could do it so there's 3 rounds, followed by a bonus round.
So if we do go for the full selection of consoles, that would be 42 main rounds, and 14 Bonus rounds.
Hmmm.... maybe there should be less representatives per console.
(Unless the challenge is stretched over 2 days. Gives everyone a little bit of a breathing period then.)
If we were to cut that down to 2, then it would be 28 and 7, which would work better...
There is an alternative. Maybe take away the console restriction and just set an overall set amount.
Maybe make it 30 and 8 over 1 or 2 days.
I think for now, we just need to build some sort of list of really hard games, the see what to do from there....

Speedrun of Super Mario Bros. 3 Nes
Warpwhistles allowed! XD
If there are enough people interested, then we could set up a Steam Group.
But first, we need to come up with some games and events.
(Make up sort of gameplan)
EDIT: The Genesis should be the easiest to start with. (Due to the general low costs of the games, and the fact the most popular games are literally everywhere so I'm sure most of us would have a good breadth of experience)
PM'ed
And please everyone, do share your ideas if you got any.
(You'll probably have something more practial than what I could think of! (I can be rather obscure in my tastes) XD)
EDIT: I'm thinking that the bonus challenges possibly don't have to be about a game in specific.
They could be more like party or drinking game activites.
Imagine how silly would it be as a bonus that everyone had to play Super Mario Bros. one handed! XD
Or how aggrivating it would be to play a serious FPS with an irritatingly out of place song or sound effect in the background (Halopolka?)
How about a makeshift mirror mode of Team Fortress 2 (Literally playing TF2 through a Mirror! XD)
Reversed Control Pacman?
That would be perfect for an "ultimate gamers challange"
I already beat the game's light world though.:D

(But he plays sonic games religiously, so he remembers EVERYTHING! XD)
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
I think we can add Bucky 'O' Hare the Megaman games to the Nes shortlist.
Yes "Battletoads" was a NES title.
But there are 4 Battletoad games. (5 if you count the double dragon cross-over!)
The first on the NES, the second on the gameboy (I think?), the third on the snes (Battletoads in Battlemaniacs), and a fourth one that only came out in arcades.
Needless to say that they are all hard as hell!
You have got to be joking. Earthbound is still the hardest RPG I've ever played in terms of instant difficulty and teeth-grindingly frustrating difficulty, the kind of which I absolutely adore. The desert area, and the snow areas, not to mention the alien areas were all nail-biting for me. Maybe I didn't stock up enough, but goodness knows I tried. I tried hard. I did manage to beat the game, though, which is more than I can say for Super Star Wars or Ninja Gaiden.
Eternal Daughter is probably the second or third hardest game on the entire list, but most probably haven't heard of it. It's by Derek Yu, before his games sucked ass.
So that guy who beat Ninja Gaiden on a dance pad must really make you feel like an ass.
