Needed - Background Artist for 'Carnival of Monkey Island'

edited April 2011 in General Chat
Sorry for posting this in 'General Chat', but I'm afraid it mightn't be noticed by many if it is posted in the 'Tales of Monkey Island General Discussion' section.

I'm just posting here to see if any of the great artists here on the TTG forums are interested on working on our (mainly OzzieMonkey's) fan game - 'Carnival of Monkey Island'. Now, we're looking for someone who is quite competent and who can also, to some degree, emulate the style of Bill Tiller. We already have one major background artists - blackbat - who is responsible for these:

We're looking for somebody who can create artworks of a similar style; who can emulate Bill Tiller's cartoony, exaggerated style of art. Well, this would be preferred anyway, just so that we can have a sense of consistency from background to background.

Anybody who is willing, feel free to come forward. I promise we won't work you too hard :D; this is quite a casual project. Thanks.

Ok, I can't draw in anyway, shape or form.

But I just couldn't hold it back, and my jaw really hurts as I just dropped it.
But those are really beautiful, and the style is spot on simply amazing.
It's things like that, that makes me envious.

Ok, I just had to let you know. :D

I hope you find your artist, I know we have many great talents on these forums.
    (Not including me.):p

I know; she's great, isn't she :). I feel the same way, it always makes me wish I was capable of drawing well.

She's already completed one of the main backgrounds during her short time in the project. It looks amazing; I'd love to share it... but, alas, I cannot.

Thanks, I hope we find one too. I do have faith that we'll get someone :).

Wow, I've tried to keep myself in the dark about this thing (despite being signed up to contribute at some point down the road), but I had to go look after reading that. You're right, it really is absolutely amazing.

Aye - I was really impressed at what she was able to turn the original, paint-drawn concept into :D.

Absolutely. We haven't found another person yet, so I think I'll go click through the pages of the 'Legendary General Art Thread', and ask a few people there if they want to join. I think I'll also send a PM to cirolmo in the hope that he'll say yes. His art is awesome, so having him on the team would be absolutely great.

I made this background a while back for a now defuct Monkey Island fangame. I'm not sure how hellpful I would be to your project though; seeming as my art clearly doesn't hold a candle to Blackbat's outstanding artwork. I could always help out with writing dialogue, as I have something of a flair for that. Either way, it would be nice to contribute in some way.

P.S. Please excuse the colours looking so messed up in the above image. It never looked that drab and dark on my PC. *Sigh*

EDIT: I'm going out to see my friends gig tonight but I'll upload a higher quality, colour corrected version of the picture tomorrow because the above one really doesn't look right.

    Hey Davies,
It really is a nice background.
I especially like your compositions. Of course you can still go into more detail. I love details and structures. :D
I had no problem to take you in our team if you do not mind, I can rework on your backgrounds with details and structures.

Time to see what the others say to do so.

This is what I thought we could do. I like the idea of working like this. I'll send you a link to our private forum, Davies.

i would be a good voice actor, i am good at acting, in fact i was in a play a couple of weeks ago
  • edited April 2011
We probably could use another voice actor. Wally may have a small role in the game. Perhaps you could voice him (that is if we end up putting him in). Of course, we'd need some samples ;).
  • edited April 2011
ok tell me what i should do for the sample, not that it would be hard and all

I'd love to join if the position is still open. I work in illustration and I've been trying to work in backgrounds for some time now.

If you still want to audition, then just record some of Wally's lines from 'Curse of Monkey Island'. But, keep in mind, we might not include Wally in the game.

Terrific! If you could perhaps provide us with a sample of some of any of your previous work, then we can make our decision. Thanks :).
