Updated Maniac Mansion?

edited May 2013 in General Chat
Hello

A question for the folks at TelltaleGames:
Will you be bringing back Maniac Mansion like you did Monkey Island?

I know that a lot of people are waiting for it and would love to see an update.

Thanks

Believe me you don't want TT doing Maniac Mansion. Not anymore as this would involve doing a weird, adventure, game. You better ask Ron Gilbert on the DoubleFine site.

Either you have never played the game or are trying to make a dumb joke:confused:

Okay you got me. What's this Maniac Mansion you're talking about? Is it a character from Monkey Island? I've played all Monkey Islands but i can't remember a character with this name in both games.

    Is this guy for real?

A new Maniac Mansion game would be awesome but it would be difficult to do this series in an episodic format. Both MM games took place in one location and there weren't really any major plot points between the beginning and the end. But then again, they managed to do it with Sam & Max so it could be possible.

There are already a couple remakes. Plus Ron Gilbert has talked about wanting to remake it for real...

I think what OX Bigly was asking was, are they going to make another sequel to MM.
A new game with a new story, sort of like tales of monkey island.

    yeah good call.

    Well, I don't mean a sequel.
I mean redoing the graphics adding voices and redoing the music (OC Remix).

There is also no reason it should be episodic, the redo of the first Monkey Island wasn't.

As far as other remakes all I've ever seen is graphic updates.

It would be nice to add Day of the Tentacle added to it as well.

The reason why it would be episodic is because that's how Telltale works. They didn't do the Monkey Island Special Editions, like you seem to think they did.

Telltale did the new Monkey Island game, Tales of Monkey Island, under license from LucasArts. LucasArts produced the special edition remakes of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and they licensed the first SE for Telltale to sell in their store. If anybody's going to do a special edition of Maniac Mansion, it'll be LucasArts.

Why do a remake ? Lets see a new Maniac Mansion.

Besides Sam and Max hit the road and TOMI this was my favorite old adventure game. It would also be cool to see a new LOOM.

Well, this isn't really big news as of yet, but Disney have recently renewed the license for Maniac Mansion. I don't know if that means we'll be seeing anything new on that front or if they're just covering their asses, but if we were to get anything, I would love HD remakes of DOTT and the original game, hell, the first game is so short (it was included as a bonus with DOTT when it first came out), I reckon they could get away with doing both at the same time. Of course, new stuff would be awesome too, and I nominate DoubleFine for that.

They're more than likely just covering their asses with the renewal. If they didn't, the game would essentially become freeware.

Or worse. Someone who actually wants to do something with the series could grab up the rights WITHOUT having to pay Disney the licensing fees!

I loved Day of the Tentacle. I'd be all for another time travelly adventure game, though I'd settle for a non-time travelly one since it was most likely just a one-off thing.

A lot of us would be up for it. Alas, Disney, more so than Lucasarts, is content sitting on licenses.

TTG no longer makes adventure games. Telltale is in the interactive movie business now. They have stated they have no interest in classic adventure game series. Keep Telltale far, far away from Maniac Mansion.

To be honest, I'm not so sure. I believe that is their focus(yes, I saw the same quote you did), but at the same time, the amount of attention and time spent with Sam and Max in Poker Night 2... I'm not so sure they're done yet.

Unless that franchise is being severely revamped, they haven't done their last adventure game quite yet.
