Imitating Christopher Lloyd for a job

edited May 2011 in General Chat
Hey everyone,

I'm really excited about this.
My latest voice acting job requires me to do an imitation of one of my favorite actors:

Christopher Lloyd

Someone who's making a puppet series wanted me to do some celebrity impersonations for the characters.
Other than an imitation of Mr. Lloyd I'll also be doing:
Gilbert Gottfried
Marlon Brando
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Patrick Warburton
Woody Allen

I'm just really excited about this! :D

Sounds fun! I'd love to teach myself to do impressions, but I don't feel like I'd be able to do it well enough for anything serious. You should post some puppet clips when they're done.

    That'll be a while.
It's for a pilot episode, and the puppets are currently being made.
    I'll keep you posted though.

I thouth you were looking for someone who can imitate him ... :(

Ya know! This thing that you do, with the puppets and the voices, is kind of cool, but pretty strange as well.

    I guess I'm a pretty strange guy then. ;)
    But I don't mind.
One of my alltime idols did stuff with puppets and voices.
His name was Jim Henson and you might recognise one of his characters: Kermit the Frog.

I was trying to do a Christopher Walken impersonation there.
But puppets and silly voices are cool to me as well! :D

(I try to do different voices all the time, though the only one thats near decent is my Mad voice from Inspector Gadget! XD)

I totally read something different there. Totally.

Nathan Fillion can do an amazing Chris Walken. =)

Kermit isn't a puppet, it's a muppet, word created from mixing marionette (controlled from the top with strings) and puppet (controlled from the bottom without strings) because they're controlled from the bottom with strings.

Does anyone have a clip of Christopher Lloyd singing?
I'm now supposed to sing a song in his voice, but I've never heard him sing.

The same goes for John Cleese!

I had the same problem when I was asked by Silverwolfpet to sing in his voice!
Good luck finding a clip of him singing! I never managed to find one ...

Do you at least have a recording of you singing in his voice?
It's supposed to be for the pilot of a puppet series, so I want to get as much as an idea of his singing voice as I possibly can.

The thing is, I still have the same problem ... I have no idea how Christopher Lloyd would sing ... sorry :(

Hmmm... I guess this'll be one of my hardest jobs to date...
It's a lot of fun though!

Anyway, I think Christopher Lloyd sings in this movie: Track 29
You can hear him singing a little tune (begins on 0:36) dunno if he does more in the movie tho  hope this helps!

No, I'm not Piotr. Does Piotr do voices professionally?

I still can't really hear any singing in that trailer. Are you sure anyone's singing in there? A lot of shouting though. :p
    Thanks for the tip anyway.

I think so. Saturday Night Live called him for an audition but in the end he didn't get the job. I guess/assume he's doing stand-up comedy and voice acting now.

I know I know he did like 2 notes but I thought it could have helped anyway haha

Much respect for your job, I love voice acting and it would be great if we can hear some of your stuff! Do you by any chance have a website or a youtubechannel?

    Wow, thanks Puzzlebox!
It just doesn't sound like John Cleese at all. Didn't expect that. :)
I can work with this however.

It doesn't really have any samples yet though, but I'll let you hear the songs when they're done. :)

Yeah, it was a lot of fun working with a big budget and names like Carry Tefsen.

For the Rabobank I did the voice for Christiaen the medieval coin exchanger in an episode of "De Avonturen van Jippe".

Not sure if it matters anymore but I actually found some clips of Lloyd singing:

    In "Taxi"

    "Bilbao Song" from Happy End

While it tecnically wasn't sung by Lloyd himself, he voiced the character dialogue on the film and the singing was done by Jim Cummings in a very Lloyd-ish style. And has a lot of Jeremy Irons too...

I actually recorded 3 of the 4 songs I'm supposed to do. Every single one except the Christopher Lloyd one. We haven't really decided on the voice yet. We went with Chris Lloyd, but after that we felt it wouldn't work, so we're figuring it out now.

I think I can safely say that I can't do an impression of Chris Lloyd. I always manage to sound like Dan Castellaneta's rather broad impersonation of him from the Animated Series. (That, and it's a pain on the vocal cords. Really.)

As for the original poster: I thought for a minute you were going to say that Universal Studios had a new BTTF ride in the works and you were going to apply for the Doc Brown walkaround outside the ride building.

Which sparked another memory: in 2000, my family and I visited USF and went on that ride, with the Doc character ranting about how his DeLorean had been stolen. I said, "Why don't you just dial 10-10-321 and call the police?" The crowd burst out laughing, 'cause (Lloyd) was doing the ads for the 10-10-321 collect-call service. (Was it 321 or 220? I can't remember.)
