backtothefuture102.exe has stopped working

edited May 2011 in Game Support
I am on Windows7, purchased the game through steam. Episode 1 played fine, I tried episode 3 and it plays fine as well.

The game looks like it is going to load, i get the icon indicating save/load in progress in the lower right corner of screen and then the error in the thread title.

I've tried looking through these forums.

I have tried

-delete reinstall game
-defragment game cache files through steam options
-run as administrator through windows7 file browser

Any other steps I should try?

I know there was a problem with skype and steam when I installed a previous game through steam. I had to uninstall skype to register that game. I've since reinstalled skype. It is weird that episode 1 and 3 both work with no problems.

thanks for your help.

    First go to

Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> (Left Side) select Windows Logs -> Application.

There you can hopefully find what causes the crash (Faulting module name)

Do you see the fault-module name as seen in the picture above? I assume you use Windows 7?

Ouch it seems that Windows itself causes the crash since ntdll.dll is a part of it.

I can only recommend running windows update.
Or try the 32bit version of Windows 7.

Thanks for your help, I have seen some other people with the same problem on different game episodes and different games as well. It seems some have found solutions replacing their prefs.prop file with one that specifies a lower screen resolution. I have read the problem comes from having less than three display options on your monitor. I have emailed Telltale customer support.

I feel like I have done as much or more than I should be expected to as a customer.
