Numbers Stations

Spent a good year or so chasing these things around the dial, it's a fascinating subject if you can get anyone to talk about that is.

Only problem is it's pretty difficult to get anyone 'In the know' to actually talk about it. Sure there's lots of stuff on the net about them but very little real information.

I got bored after about 18 months and then got side tracked by RiscPC's.

Other than the conet project there are a few other decent collections out there that are worth acquiring if you take the time to track them down.

I had the lincolnshire poacher as my ringtone for a while and I used to get some really funny looks from the odd pensioner.

EDIT: Here's a live feed (m3u format) for Uzb-76 AKA The Buzzer, one of the stations with an interesting history

These things are for real? I saw them on a Fringe episode and thought they just made them up.

Wasn't the Lincolnshire Poacher triangulated? Or was that a different station?

Yes they're real. I was reminded of them when I beat Sword and Sworcery. A transmission comes through in the form of a numbers station.

I love these things. My math teacher was in the US Navy in Spain during the 50s and said they used to hear them all the time. Also, my dad tells me you used to be able to hear them here in the early morning. Cool stuff, says I.

    Triple posting is obnoxious.

This is one thing where the truth could well be actually pretty interesting. There's a nice skeptoid ep on numbers stations... here.

Well unlike a lot of other mysteries, this is an observable, randomly repeating phenomenon. So it goes beyond my other interests of ghosts and UFOs by being detectable.

Ahh Diddums... I'm sure you'll eventually get over the trauma :p ;)

    @Daisha

Forgot how much fun this can be, found a Mossad morse station but not decoded it yet and even tracked down a broadcast of E06 last night, shame the reception was so bad but you could distinctly hear him reading out the blocks of numbers.

My main goal is to grab a recording of Cherry Ripe as the poacher is now all but off the air :(

I've never heard a numbers station broadcasted live :(

That said it's all very cool stuff, even the last COD tried to jump on the numbers station craze to appease cool kids like ourselves

Cherry Ripe hasn't been triangulated also? I thought it would have been nearby since it took up Lincolnshire's broadcasts.
