I'll rent it for the extras (the missus works in Blockbuster = FREE RENTALS! ), but I'll wait for HD theatrical versions before even considering buying it.
(Just kidding. I actually think as a whole the prequels are better than the sequels)
Really??
Jar-Jar is racist; Hayden Christensen is a bad actor; Jake Lloyd is a bad actor; Midichlorians ruin the mystical nature of the Force; The Jedi Council bickers too much; The Phantom Menace does nothing to further Anakin's character development; and more...
The two most compelling characters in the whole PT are Palpatine and Qui-Gon Jinn

Nah, I'm not willing to support the evil Empire and its nefarious, bearded Emperor any longer. Not unless I give into the dark side and make a purchase out of morbid curiosity at how the flannel shirted Hutt has further tampered with the original trilogy.

Well, TPM was my first starwars film, so the midichlorians thing is mute for me. And how can you say TPM doesn't further anakins character? It shows that he was once a nice slave child who cared about his mum too much. Not just an evil magician who can't see his son die. And yes, I agree that anakin wasn't played by the best actors (adolescent anakin seemed drunk in most of his scenes). I think my main gripe with the prequels was the relationship with padmé. It just seems wrong, given the apparrent age gap between them in TPM.
But the prequels are worth it just for this fight. And Order 66/youngling massacre.
Still, the best starwars episode? Knights of the old republic.
I would add R2D2 to this mix, personally. That little droid has consistently been the best actor in the Star Wars films.
That nearsighted scrap pile lost all credibility for me the moment two jets emerged from within his computer generated self and he flew off, leaving a wake of bitter fans lost in the mist of his vapour trails.

That was just lousy special effects. The artistic soul of the electronic actor remained intact, continuing to portray every emotion of his character far better than any of his meatbag counterparts.
no...it was the fact R2D2 HAD jets.... They obviously weren't there in the original trilogy....but I'm sure if you ask Lucas, he'd just say something like "oh they were broken" or some garbage.

I was talking about his acting skills, which are far better than the other actors. Plot, characterization, and special effects are separate here.
Anyway, it was a facetious comment in the first place. I feel like I'm explaining the joke now. I'll stop.

Precisely, I'd imagine that his jets ran out of fuel sometime after Episode III and the team that fixed R2D2 up for the celebration at the end of Episode IV couldn't find any replacement fuel because one of the rebels had stolen the last of the supplies after forming an addiction to fuel sniffing. Following that, fuel prices soured to all time highs due to the eviiiilllll Empire and R2's jets became a low priority, which upset R2 greatly and gave him an inferiority complex.
Which is a shame because the tin can sure could have used those jets of his when he was precariously balanced atop Luke's X-Wing on Dagobah, or when he had to flee Jabba's exploding sail barge.
...or it could just be bad writing.
As for R2D2's acting skills, I'd say that he was in his prime for Episode 's IV-VI. To be honest, the cocaine habit he had formed during the years that followed Episode VI's release was really apparent throughout the prequel movies.

I recently discovered the wonders of The Phantom Editor, much improved versions of Episodes 1 and 2. Don't think I'll ever watch the actual releases again!
its really sad that kids born in 2000+ are not interested in the original trilogy.
I agree. Hell, I'd even say kids 1990+. Anyone who grew up with CGI instead of physical and camera effects really. It's the same thing as people who grew up with 3D platform games. Anything else just bothers them as being lowgrade. They are missing out on history and the great leaps in film...but really... it doesn't bother them, so whatever. :P There are still a small percentage of kids that watch old movies, listen to judas priest and play super mario bros. and to them, they get the thumbs up from me.
lucas as a whole is not a bad guy but he just needs to let others help him out sometimes. The dialog of the prequel trilogy is a perfect example. Lucas felt like he needed to write everything. As a result we got things like "i don't like sand" instead of
"i recognized your foul stench when i was brought on board"

'Tis true and also sad but it has always been this way and will continue to be. As an 80's child, I'd be lying if I claimed to own as many films from the pre-70's era, as I do post-60's. I have no doubt that I'm missing out on some great films, which form an important part of cinematic history.
That's not to say that I haven't seen my fair share of classic pre-70's cinema though. Including...
The Wizard of Oz
The Thin Man
Frankenstein
Casablanca
King Kong
Miracle on 34th Street
[HUGE AMOUNT OF TEXT. THE COMPLETE LIST AND 4 PARAGRAPTH'S MISSING. I'M NOT JOKING 4 FUCKING PARAGRAPTHS OF TEXT. NOT SMALL PARAGRAPTHS EITHER BUT HUGE ONES. birth and work backwards in chronological order, with only the occasional divergence to something made way before your own era.
It's also very important to remember that the kids who favour the prequel trilogy and its ilk at the expense of any films made pre-80's are just that; kids! As they get older and more mature, they will undoubtedly crave films which favour story and characterisation over flashy CGI and will seek out newer (and older) experiences. Then when they get older they will moan that the children of the future don't watch any films made pre-2020. It's just the way things go.
As for myself; I'm sure that, God willing, I shall get around to seeing those classic black and white films that I missed out on at some point but it's like Jack Nicholson as the Joker said..
So much to do and so little time...
EDIT: I FUCKING hate the PS3. It deleted the middle part of my post, so I retyped it. Then it happened again. Well, FUCK you Mr. PS3, I'm not typing that essay out again. Not this time, not with the god damned fiddly PS3 controller. Congratulations Sony, you've finally succeeded in making me look like as bigger incompetent tit as you are. I hope you're happy.
I may rent the Blu-Rays now that I have a PS3 to watch them on, but it's not a priority. Seen the films once, seen them a dozen times. Besides, the extras would be of most interest to me, and I don't see the point in buying the Blu-Rays just for a few bonus features they couldn't be arsed to put on any of the DVD releases.
Besides, Adywan's Revisited fan-edits are the best versions you can find, HD or not.
