Desert Island Games

I was recently asked what my "5 desert island games" would be. After "coconut bowling" was soundly rejected, I chose:

1. The Witness
2. Animal Crossing
3. Super Mario World
4. Katamari Damacy
5. Brain Age

I was wondering what some of your choices would be?

Kevin

1: Tetris, because I will never get tired of it for as long as I live.
2: Garry's Mod, because you can do anything.
3: Brain Age, for the reasons you mentioned.
4: Cave Story, because of its compelling platform gameplay and high density of secrets.
5: Loom, because I STILL haven't beaten it.

    1. The Settlers IV - I would take the entire series, but I'll just pick the one that will keep me occupied for a while.
    2. FIFA 06 - It may be just another sports game, but I can see myself playing season after season after season...
    3. Civilization III: Complete - Same reason I picked Settlers IV.
    4. Transport Tycoon Deluxe - Maybe I could practice setting up a transport company on the island.
    5. Wii Sports - I may feel terribly lonely, but at least I'll stay in shape, playing the Fitness mode every day. And maybe I can get a monkey or two to play along.

So basically, no games with a definite ending (like adventure games or platformers), but games that'll keep me occupied by offering a new challenge every time I play.

    Gosh, I don't think I could pick 5. There's just too many good ones. : / I can't decide.

Riven - Even though this is a solitary exploration AG, when I got sick of the environment of the island I was on, I could explore Riven (plus it has incredible music)

Psychonauts - I suck playing this game but it's fun (well I never got that far before I gave up)! Again, an incredible place to explore and I would finally master the learning curve for it.

Day of the Tentacle - another game I've never finished. It's funny (and an extremely hard game for me) and I might actually finish it.

MahJong - it's nice to have a good puzzle game.

The Longest Journey - terrific story and characters and locations that I love to revisit.

Wait, wait, wait... What do you mean, "desert island"?
  • edited March 2007
It means if you were to be marooned on a desert island (which miraculously had a number of video gaming systems all in good working order), which 5 games would you take to amuse yourself?

    Mine would possibly be;

Tetris - can spend hours on this game
Day of the Tentacle - favourite game ever, and one of the funniest
X-Wing - Huge amounts of gameplay & replayability, especially with the new missions on the CD.
Knights of the Old Republic - Never finished this one, nice long game with intriguing plot & characters.
The Movies - Never really got into it, but given a lot of time to waste, could probably come up with some real gems.

    1. Grim Fandango, if only just to play Year 2 in Rubacava over and over again.
    2. Dance Dance Revolution, to keep up my m4d d4nc1ng sk1llz.
    3. Zelda: Twilight Princess, because I still have yet to finish it.
    4. Cubert Badbone P.I., so that I could marvel nostalgically at the brilliance I achieved at the tender age of sixteen. (Or cringe, depending on what kind of mood I'm in.)
    5. Tetris. Duh.

    Covert Action
    Worms: Armageddon
    Crusader: no Remorse
KGB - I have a love-hate relationship with this game. Maybe on a deserted island I can actually finish it without a walkthrough.
    Tetris - undeniable

Hmm... tough one. Probably these (in no particular order):

    Shadow of Destiny
    Gabriel Knight 2
    Final Fantasy 8
    King's Quest 6
    Sims 2

The first four are games I could play again and again. (And often do!) I love the stories and never seem to get tired of them.

Sims 2 I can play for hours/days/months on end, so I think it would keep me nice and busy while I was waiting for the rescue crew to show up.

Wait... isn't it your job as a PR to list only Telltale products as desert island-worthy games? :P

You know you don't even need a computer to play space invaders, pong or pole position on a desert island - just a large number of fellow castaways and some chairs...

Yes, I'm upping an old, old, old thread. Lots of new users here, lets see what they'd choose...

I think it's fair to say that choosing a whole game series (Every Monkey Island game!) would be cheating, but what's the policy on Telltale episodes?

    Anyway;
    Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
    Brutal Legend
Batman Arkham Asylum (Or City, if it already comes out)
Sims 3, with every expansion (Never played Sims 3, but I heard good things)
Halo Reach Legendary Edition (with the box, but inside: waterproof matches, iodine tablets, beet seeds, protein bars, NASA blanket, and, in case I get bored, Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone. No, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)

My 5 (note that these aren't my five favorite games, but the five games I'd be happiest stuck on a desert island with)

    1. Wii Sports Resort- Aware of the redundancy, being on a desert island and all, but it's fun, gosh darn it.
    2. Final Fantasy 12- I know most people couldn't stand it, but it was free roaming, fairly relaxing, and something I honestly just liked. Sue me.
    3. Pokemon (either Soul Silver or the new Black game)- Because I'd seriously be the very best after being stuck on a desert island. Level 99 Magikarp, anyone?
    4. The Sims 3- Again, something that is a fantastic timesuck.
    5. Sam and Max Season 2- While not my favorite of all of Telltale's games (that would be ToMI), nor the first one I played (that's SBCG4AP for the Wii), this one still continues to make me smile after who knows how many replays. It's like having my favorite television miniseries on hand that I can mess with.

Pokemon! Of course! Dammit, why didn't I think of that?!

I think a Telltale series, as fits on the post-download DVD, is fair game.

    Gran Turismo 5
    SWOS '96/97
King's Quest Collection (because, y'know, I've never played through any of them before, and I believe getting full score in each and every one of them without a walkthrough should take quite a while).

Civilization V (when on a desert island, learn how to mod)

When you think about it, this question is not about "Your favorite games", instead, it's "Games you can goof around in forever".
