Assassin's Creed: Revelations announced

edited May 2011 in General Chat
New Assassin's Creed game finally announced.

My first thought is 'More bloody Ezio?'. My second is 'Seriously, enough with Ezio already! The series is supposed to be about multiple assassins from Desmond's lineage, not the same one over and over again!'. My third thought is 'Multiplayer again? Screw that.'

Just playing through Brotherhood at the moment so trying not to look into this too deeply until I've finished it but from what I've seen it'll be Ezio's last chapter (as they refer to it) and will also feature Altaïr. At least it'll be moving away from Italy to the Ottoman Empire & Constantinople.

As for multiplayer, it's optional! I understand why they've added it but I'm generally not a fan of online multiplayer (only real exception is the Fifa & NHL series). And it does sort of make sense in the storyline scheme of things as a training ground for Abstergo agents.

I think a game where gameplay shifts between Altair, Ezio, and Desmond sounds awesome. But I'm even further behind than Biggins: I don't have a PS3/360 and refuse to deal with Ubisoft's DRM on the PC, so I had to play the first two games on my cousin's Xbox and haven't had a chance to play Brotherhood at all yet.

This'll be fantastic, but... what happened to the 3DS game? :(

I would imagine it'll be still coming.

Yeahh!!!! Constantinople! I think this is great news for that Istanbulian guy around here.

I, too, am kind of tired of Ezio at this point, although I'm so in love with AC's storyline that even another full Ezio game wouldn't stop me from playing it. I'm curious as to what the plot's going to be--the present day Assassins are looking for some Piece of Eden that Altair and Ezio both encountered in Instanbul/Constantinople, perhaps?

Achievements. If I want to get all the achievements for ACBroHood, I have to play multiplayer. I hate this. I don't want to be forced to play multiplayer for a few gamer points, and my OCD won't let me not do it. This really does crop up way more than it should.

    Yo'.

I'm not really into the franchise of Assassin's Creed, but I have a friend in Turkey who's a BIG fan. Here's the catch; he has NEVER been to Istanbul (he doesn't like here either). He'll probably fangasm anyway.

I couldn't give a big pile of dung about achievements. But that's just me.

Also Guru I seem to remember reading that Ubisoft were at least reducing the severity of their DRM so you don't have to be connected to the internet all the time, just every time you start the game. Whoo(!) Anyway, I know they've patched AC2 already but don't know about Brotherhood.

As for Revelations, having both Ezio & Altaïr in Constantinople (you think they both will be in the same city at least) is a good way to show both the Byzantine & Ottoman empires and compare them against each other in the same location. Possibly even in modern Istanbul as well.

I can agree with this. I really don't like multiplayer achievements most of the time. It's okay if its something simple like "win 10 games" or whatever, but usually there's one or two wherein all the planets must align magically for you to get it. Aaargh.

Here is why I expect the next game to take place during the Unification of Germany: (And even if not, this picture should be a part of a puzzle.)

    scoronationdetailed.png
This is a picture of Wilhelm's (the new emperor of Germany) coronation. Marked in red are details which show us that there were assassins involved in the coronation:
    1. Clearly, this man had his ring finger amputated. (All right, so it's his right hand. But who cares?) Also, he probably expected opposition, as he is armoured.
    2. This man is a pickpocket! The men near him possibly has an important document about the Templars.
    3. This man was probably the target of poisoning.
    4. Apparently, this man noticed the assassin's amputated ring finger.

Marked in blue are unrelated interesting details:
    1. Is that Mark Twain?
    2. This raised helm is apparently going to be placed on this man's head.
    3. His fake moustache is falling apart!

(Yeah, me and my friend got bored in school and looked at this picture in our history book.)

And about the next game, while I quite liked the previous games and the improvements done in each, I would prefer to move away from Ezio in the next game. What I think is that it would be best to wait for the last game and buy it, as each game has more features than the previous. But apparently Ubisoft finds the Renaissance quite an interesting period!

It's trying too hard to be Inception. (Possibly someone else using the animus to access) Desmond using the animus to access Ezio who is using magic to access Altair.

I'm a big enough fan of the series that I'll definitely give it a shot but after this, I'm ready for a new timeline (hell, I was ready after ACII). I like the Renaissance as much as the next guy but there's so much potential in exploring a new timeline. I want to be an assassin in Victorian London or Berlin in the late 1930s. I also think Paris, Boston or Moscow during their respective revolutions would make fantastic settings.

I think an Assassin's Creed during the American Revolution would be fantastic.

I doubt Ezio is using magic so much as using artifacts of the ancient civilization that created the Apple of Eden. And for all we know, Abstergo may have those same artifacts in the present day, and were able to reverse engineer that technology to create the Animus in the first place.

I agree with above posters that I'm kind of tired of this era, but at least it's not in Italy again this time. It should feel different enough, especially if the Altair and Desmond sections are numerous enough.

Also: Wouldn't it make the most sense for AC3 to be set entirely in 2012?

It might, but the historical settings is one of the coolest parts of Assassin's Creed. There are a billion games wherein I can kill dudes in the present. Being able to kill dudes during the Crusades and the Renaissance was a new experience.

Exactly. It would make sense story-wise but it would lose a lot of the appeal of the premise. I'm sure Desmond will have an even bigger role in AC3, but I hope that there's also a new assassin and a new time line that takes up at least 50% of the game.

I just wonder if Ubisoft still plans to end the series with AC3 like they supposedly planned to do when AC2 first released. It seems likely that, given how much the series is deservedly turning into a cash-cow, we should expect it to continue a lot further past 2012.

Well, 2012 launch and 2012 syncing date for AC3 is too good to pass up. We may just get Spin-offs and prequels, which I would not mind at all.

(note: didn't see the above post until I posted this)

I would expect a game to be released around November/December 2012, be it AC3 or AC:Whatever just because I feel it'd be a cool way to tie into the present of the AC universe. After that, prequels would be a good way to go about it, or make a new character from the present and spin-off from there. Hell, they could work out a new threat that they have to combat, 'cos presumably the Templars will be pissed off if (really more like when) their plans are foiled and so they'd have to come up with something new to try.

So best bet is AC3 for late next year (would imagine Ubisoft already have a team working on it now) then after that who knows but hopefully more games!
