Why Akira shouldn't be made into a live action
Well, its pretty obvious...because HOLYWOOD will get their stinking hands on it and make a mockery of it.
I've heard some proper bent shit like they're going to Americanize it and not even set it in Tokyo.
Who here reckons it should be a Japanese made film in Japanese? Screw the Western audience.
Lol. Actually if it was in English maybe it would be cool but as far as I'm concerned there is no director out there capable of such a job, not any big shot Hollywood douche bag anyhow.
Needs someone like, the mind of Takeshi Miike, with, let me see....mmmm....a tad bit of John Woo......see.....its imposbile...because Akira should just be left as an animation.

Recent news however had Keanu Reeves playing Kaneda, but that has been announced as false, and just this past week, the director dropped out so they still need to find a new director before any more progress is made.
Akira is one of those things that, while I haven't actually watched (yet), I know full well should never be remade in live action. Animation can get away with an awful lot more than Reality, and putting the sort of things that I know happen in Akira into CGI-trying-to-look-like-real-stuff just wouldn't work.
So yeah, I'm opposed to this. Well, as much as I can be given how utterly lazy I am.
Also, loved American Akira. But it's 2011. Where's my movie?
Second, Hollywood remakes stuff. It's what they do, and have done, ever since the very first film came out. Seriously - The Great Train Robbery, widely considered to be the first true motion picture when it came out in 1903, was remade the very next year, in 1904 (and yes, the remake was an inferior version).
Remaking films is nothing new, but you have to remember one very important thing. REMAKES DO NOT INVALIDATE THE ORIGINAL. No matter how good or bad the remake is, the original still exists. It's never going to vanish just because there's a newer version of it out. In fact, people will be curious to see the original, especially if the remake sucks.
So let Hollywood have their 'fun' in remaking stuff. It really doesn't matter. The original, the one people love so much, is still there, and people will keep loving it. If they didn't, there'd be no real reason to remake it.
And honestly, the original Total Recall wasn't all that fantastic. I'm not saying the remake will be any better, but it's been what, 20 years? Honestly, let 'em have another go at it. The new one could be kinda fun in its own goofy way.
Well that's what I think anyway.
Ernh... maybe tomorrow.
First off, congratulations on mistaking my spelling of 'Holywood' as a mistake. It was INTENTIONAL duuuh.
But you are correct. Let the losers make Akira, see if I care!!!!
Rebuild of Evangelion is all the Evangelion I need
