edited June 2011 in General Chat
Ok so today im seeing the latest x men film, the orginal films are fantastic and i was sad when they said they wont make any sequels only prequels

Does anybody know why?

I know something about them saying they explored the present a lot but want to know the routes?

They killed off like 3 main characters in the third one, isn't that right? Plus Frasier was beast for some reason.

They were good popcorn-cinema (not great though). I have seen worse movies in that genre.

I agree with that and i dont find casey grammer (or however you spell his name) A bad beast!!

The only thing i think was bad with the 3rd and 2nd film is that they were to fast paced...

They included a way back for Professor X ,with the mindless body they talked about during lessons.

The second film was still good but the third one went off the raisl.

I just didn't like the third movie. It seemed to have 2 plots going at once that conflicted. And Dark Phoenix is way more powerful in the comics. Not that it makes a movie good or bad but it still bugged me. I do wana see X men first class though.

The third one was alright, but it wasn't as focused as the other two, and suffers in comparison. It's a perfectly fine film, but given how brilliant the first two were, it was a letdown to many. And I understand that.

Last Stand did a lot of very questionable things. The many deaths, for one, which would leave anyone writing a sequel in a tricky situation. It's hard to follow up a film that wasn't that well received and now has half the cast it used to.

There was also the frankly stupid idea to let Halle Berry have more screen time. God she was terrible in these films. Terrible.

    Also, regarding Professor X:
Yes, he's now in the body of a previously brain-dead person, but he can't access his powers anymore because they were in his old body. So he's just a guy now, not a mutant. Which is... yeah, you can see why they thought it best to avoid delving into that in a franchise centered around mutants.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was a clear reason but most of the time she had no plot reason to have more scenes. And she had no chemistry with Wolverine it was just like there work mates who rarely spend alone time.

That, and she couldn't act. And had terrible lines. And couldn't act. And contributed nothing to the story. And couldn't act.

Did I mention she couldn't act? Because she couldn't. Y'know, act. That thing she couldn't do.

    ...act.

Well i just watched it, im not going to reveal anything but the beggining is a nice gesture to the first film.

except from that it felt like a remake more than a prequel

Coming from someone who enjoyed the first two X-men movies but disliked Origins and X3, I was very pleased with First Class. It truly felt like an X-men movie (as opposed to X3) and I loved the little nods they put in for the fans of the original trilogy.

It's quite an enjoyable film and I would recommend it to any superhero fan.

Why do people hate on Origins: Wolverine? If I'm not mistaken, it is much closer to the comics than any other movie. Sure they spiced it up so people could see more mutants, but I thought it was pretty faithful and well above what I expected after X3. It wasn't a great movie, but if I had to watch 1 x-men movie again, it would be Wolverine(and no, I'm not a fanboy with a hard-on for him, he's not my favourite mutant).

    *ahem*

Overall, I don't hate, but I just don't like it and they ruined the character I wanted to see the most.

    Re: First Class
After X3 and Wolverine I wasn't expecting it to be any good, but I'm really glad I was wrong.

That one cameo (if you saw the movie you know which one) was amazing, the theater was clapping when it happened XD

Indeed deadpool in wolverine origins is nothing like the comic version.

At least they killed off one of the least likeable of the trilogy. I mean, who even likes Scott in the comics nowadays?

Also, you can bet that the Deadpool movie will reference that and just say whenever somebody brings that up: "That didn't happen."
  • edited June 2011
Yeah the end of Deadpool was kind of a disappointment. I mean, he WAS supposed to be disfigured...but yeah, it was a let down(and yes, he is among my favourite characters in the comics). But seriously, compared to the other movies, Wolverine was still the best at sticking to the story.

I'm seeing this movie for two reasons. The biggest is Kevin Bacon. The second biggest is Michael Fassbender. Mostly it's Kevin Bacon, though.

    They won't disappoint you Fawful.

But is that necessarily something that makes it better? The movies are their own AU, they don't need to follow the original canon that closely. Hell, I can safely say this is one of the best X-men movies and it's easily the one that gives the least attention to previous canon be it movie or comic.

From what I've seen plenty of people actually. Of course, that's only current comic Scott, not necessarily any of the other Scotts.

Scott was generally well liked until the 90's cartoon from what I remember. I vaguely recall classmates being heartbroken and angry at the voice and character he became... Cyclops in the cartoon kind of reminds me of.... well anybody seen Robocop 2? When he gets rewired? ...yeah. That's kind of what Cyclops was in the TV show. I only really remember one episode where he went over the moral edge.... the Mr. Sinister one.

He always went over the edge with Sinster even when he was on the good side one episode. Stom had the hammyiest voice in that! I SHALL MEET YOU AT THE MONORAIL!

Yeah I'm confused about this too. Is it a reboot or a prequel cos iv herd loads of conflicting stuff?

It ignores everything. So yes, there's a few continuity issues.
Takes place 10yrs before Wolverine. Emma Frost is an adult(She appears younger in Wolverine). Summers and Grey appear briefly as children...which would make them about 40 in the original trilogy.
. (spoilers regard appearing characters and not plot).

Thanks mate. Hey, are you also a X-men the animated series fan, remember the one from the 90s?

It's a prequel that ignores X3 and Wolverine because of retcons.

I think I said this before, but, I really liked the first few seasons...the last two were awful though with the new voices(Gambit's change really bothered me) and animation(last season). The first 3 were great.

It's been a while, I have a few VHS, and the stories are FANTASTIC. Very StanLee , very well done. Haven't even given the newer stuff a chance. It was a great cartoon, very solid writing.

Then you have the good ones... I dont think they released the last couple seasons in VHS volumes. I think I had them all and they only covered the first 2 seasons.(I could be wrong though)

No, I think you're right, I think they're season 1. I wanted to buy the series, but it's going to be on Netflix, and we pay for netflix , so there's no real point in that. Anyways, thanks for informing me that the third season sucks. When I watched it growing up, I think I got as far as one episode where Cyclops fights the pheonix on a roof top or something...
Don't know if that makes sense , or if that's early in the series, and I'm likely mistaken, or what.

Yh that's the start of the Dark Phoenix saga. Which happened early on I think. It was certainly the best storyline.

season 3. I looked up the episodes. Some of season 4 is...okay. The first few episodes anyways. The episodes are all mixed up. 1997 is when everything went down(season 5), So Season 4 is worth watching. As for 5.... well... I specifically remember a fight with Mr. Sinister where no one throws a single punch...just...wrestling.
