GOG Staycation: 50% off all Interplay games!

edited June 2011 in General Chat
GOG is running a 50% off promo on all Interplay games through the 4th of July as part of a "Summer Staycation" promo. Some major standout games here, including the Fallout series, Lionheart(the oft-forgotten brother to the Fallout games), Earthworm Jim, Freespace, and many others.

Oh my ridiculously large Good Old Games list, you have grown larger once more.

Seriously, why do I keep buying these. I'll never have enough time to play over 150 games let alone Good Old Games.

Rainy days Retro, that's what I keep telling myself. I'll be picking up the Fallouts whilst they're nice and cheap

    There's that word again, "staycation."
Why is everything so staycation in the future?

    Its worse than I thought.
I actually have 175 Good Old Game titles. (Including the free stuff, and The Witcher 1 and 2 (which I can't play at the mo' since I don't have a PC that can handle them...))

That 8 really did add on.

Loving the Descent soundtrack though. (I think getting all these good old games is worth it alone for just the music! :D)

Definately not going to grumble for $3 for that.
(Its even less considering I'm from the UK, so a sale like this is just childs play really)

Could anyone say a few words about Fallout 2?

    Just get them. End off.

(and if Arcana goes on sale anytime soon, get that too. Made by the same people who made Fallout 1 and 2 (Tactics was made by a different developer))

I haven't played them much, and I'll admit that those games are quite hard to me, but they are very interesting.

But my best friend swears by them. He loves all the Fallout games.
Oh, and if you think I'm a gaming freak, this guy is just insane.

I have more games, but he plays a lot of his to full completion.
He has about the same amount of Xbox 360 games, but has a much higher gamerscore.
He'll try to 100% any game he is into.

(Maybe I should try a full run through all the Fallout games (barring Brotherhood of Steel of course!))

EDIT: Be wary though, some work might be needed to get them to work properly though. I remember I had to run a hack to get them to work, but I don't have my Good Old Games versions installed so I'm not 100% on that.

So I got all the Fallouts and the Dave Perry games, because I have to look out for my homeboy.

    DAMMIT, JOSH.

Picked up Fallout 1 and 2.

You should never damn picking up Fallout1 or 2.

But he keeps spending my money for me! So far the guy has gotten me to buy Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas, Psychonauts, The Witcher, Magicka and all its DLC, The Walking Dead compendium, and The Walking Dead season 1. Rather Dashing has an uncanny ability to make me into a consumer whore. The fact that almost all of this stuff was on sale and amazingly cheap is irrelevant.

Just bought somethin' too, thanks! :)(

Created an account, bought Fallout 2, noticed that are four other games in there:

    Teen Agent.
    Beneath a Steel Sky.
Lure (Or something, small letters) of the Temptress.
And no idea what the hell is written here, so I'll just throw in a pic

Do these things just come free with the account and are they any fun :D?

I "bought" Beneath a Steel Sky for free from GoG and it's a really good game so you should get it. I played it around the time when I got my first computer and remember I had alot of fun with it.

All of those games are free, but they have been free on the net for years now anyway (just nice shelf-filler), and they don't come with anything special.
(The adventure games work with ScummVM I think, and I think it was those guys involved with the project that managed to convince the makers of those games to release them as freeware)

    Good games though.

The first three on your list are adventure games, pre-set up to run through dosbox I think.

The last one on there is Tyrian 2000. Its a top-down shoot 'em up!

There's another free game on there called Dragonsphere.
    http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/dragonsphere

    Its another adventure game.

I decided to just buy Conquest of the New World, only to remember that that game sucked.

And you know, I still laugh at him too. For someone who wanted Blood Bowl he missed when it was $7.

Aside, I tend ignore his requests to turn me into his "whore".

    DAMMIT, JOSH.

Picked up Fallout 1 and 2.

We're Fallout buddies! It's been a pretty fun game so far, at least after my crotchety computer was done grumping at me.

I think I might have to pick up the Descent and Freespace games.

Saw this last week! Ended up getting...

Earthworm Jim 3D: Already had 1 & 2. To be honest, this game isn't as bad as everyone says, but the camera is horrendous, and usually cameras in video games don't bother me

Descent 3: Already had Descent 1 & 2. I preferred the first two, but 3 isn't bad. Also, I agree with RetroVortex about the music in 1 & 2!

Fallout: Fantastic game, but I'm too worried about the time limit to play it without a map!
Fallout 2: Haven't played yet, but will after Fallout 1
MDK: I love this game. That is all
MDK 2: Saving this for once I finish MDK 1
Freespace: Space sims aren't really my thing (but I bought it anyway. LOGIC!), but this isn't bad. It feels a little bland, but it's certainly fun.
    Freespace 2: See above

Considering Giants: Citizen Kabuto and Fallout Tactics, but not sure right now. Still, only $6 for both of them, I guess.

I would recommend against Fallout: Tactics. Fallout 1 and 2 are some of the most brilliant games ever made, while Tactics was...

    Hm.

Tactics was not made by the Fallout team. In a lot of places, it is simply wrong about in-universe knowledge. As a tactical game, it is only mediocre, and the Fallout name is the only reason it is still remembered. It isn't HORRIBLE, and may not even be BAD, and if you really love the genre you may have some fun with it. But I personally have not purchased a long-term copy from GOG, and even at this price I personally cannot justify purchasing it.

Wait...is it a RTS? Cause that could potentially be sorta fun if the game mechanics are alright.

No it's a tatics game like FF Tatics.

Um...never played that. Like how does the tactics work? I mean, the regular Fallout had tactical aspects to it.

I wouldn't call it an RTS, though the default combat mode is similar to one in some ways. There are three combat modes:

Continuous Turn-Based (CTB): The default, some might say "intended", game mode. Both players choose actions at the same time, actions are limited by Action Points, which regenerate over time at a rate determined by the Agility stat.

Individual Turn-Based (ITB): Basically combat like in 1 and 2.

Squad Turn-Based (STB): Similar to Individual Turn-Based, except each turn is given to all characters in a player's squad at once, rather than going through each person based on their place in the sequence.

Huh. Interesting. So the first option would make it a little bit like KOTOR, right?

So is it possible to play in just one mode and get to play the full game, or are there missions and such that can only be played in certain modes? This system actually sounds kind of interesting.

Dammit, that was the one thing anybody could say to make me interested in this game. But I'd probably be better off just playing FFTA again.

You can play any mode throughout the whole game, and if I remember correctly you can even switch between them on the fly. It's a setting, a switch in the menu.

I think I might have to pick up the Descent and Freespace games.

I did it. Also grabbed Battle Chess Special Edition, which is basically the floppy version of Battle Chess (not the CD version, which I already have), Battle Chess II, and Battle Chess 4000 in one package.
