Bttf Game Episode 5 Ending Crash

edited July 2011 in Game Support
All 4 of the BTTF games worked perfectly for me. But episode 5 crashes every time near the end! It goes to the point where Danny is questioning them about the car, he disappears, they Turn around..... and the screen turns WHITE. Then I get an error message telling me that it "has encountered a problem and needs to close." This happens every time! Someone for the love of sweet christ, HELP ME!

Can you post your Dx Diag? Hi ,

Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information". It will prompt you to save a file. Please upload that file here.

It is too big, which why you would've have too compress it into a zip file. Or whatever it's called.

I'm doubtng that's the REAL problem but possibly a contributing factor.

The only feasible soloution, that I can think of, is someone. (who has the PC version of this and has NOT ran into this problem) post a saved game saved right after that entire cut-scene.

    Edit: After the cut-scene where
Young Emmet presents his invention and Marty goes outside to watch FCB disaper and the real Doc come back only to find Willie Mcfly come in a Rage and shortly followed by Officer Parker confused.

That or someone from Support can help us...

Having exactly the same problem. A shame - I was really getting immersed in the plot at that point!
  • edited June 2011
I'm having the exact same issue. I've attached the save file to this post. I'd be very happy to understand the problem... it was very unfortunate to have happened at such an odd moment in the game!

I'm having a bit of a problem. The game starts to go haywire in terms of graphics and framerate during the final puzzle. It always corrects itself, but it just seems so... strange.
  • edited June 2011
I am having the exact same problem that was reported initially in this thread (Program crash after parker disappears. Ironically, the last thing that Marty says is "Uh oh...").

I've had other problems with this earlier episodes of this game where I just had to turn the graphics quality down to resolve the issue, but that doesn't seem to work this time.

All of my drivers are up to date.

Can post dxdiag upon request...text file too large even after zipping.

I'm also having this problem. Anyone got a fix yet?
  • edited June 2011
likewise - save game upload needed!
  • edited June 2011
That is exactly where it crashed on me. def need a game save for right after that or a patch to fix the issue or atleast a solution of some sort
  • edited June 2011
Same exact problem here. Right at the end of a lengthy cut scene that you can't save during, too.

A savegame from right after this cutscene would be most appreciated.
  • edited June 2011
ya it sux, i reinstalled the game and tried 2x more to see if it would go past and i still get the same crashing issue. Need a fix here
  • edited June 2011
I am also having this problem. I tried reinstalling the game a few minutes ago, but that didn't fix it.

To me, this is even more major of an issue than the "House of Glass" bug, because I was at least able to work around that without having to reinstall the game (It was probably quicker to start a new game than redownload the installer). Really hoping that a fix gets posted soon.

I have exactly the same problem!!
Almost two month we expected this episode to come out (I forget part of the plot of the previous episodes already, I have to replay it), and now IT CRASHES just like that?!?!?

Sorry to hear that this is happening, everyone. We definitely never encountered this during testing. At this point, we need more information to figure out what's causing this. If you have encountered a crash at this point, please send me an e-mail with your DXdiag file attached (choffman@telltalegames.com). With enough of these, hopefully we can establish what the systems on which the crash is occurring have in common.

We suspect this might be performance-related, as there is a lot going on "under the hood" in this scene. If you're getting this crash, here are two things that might help:

    1) Update your video card drivers.
    2) Change the graphics quality settings of the game to the lowest settings.

If either of the above tactics help you avoid the crash, please respond to this thread and let me know. It would be useful information, as it would help confirm that the crash is performance-based. Sorry again for the trouble, everyone!

While we're working on sorting this out, here are two save games for you--one right before the crash, and one right after it. (The file ending in "11-18-59.save" is the one before it, and the one ending in "11-28-21.save" is the one after it.) To use these, unzip the attached file and move the two .save files into your Documents/Telltale Games/Episode 5 folder.

Here's something to try if you're getting the crash:

    1) Make sure your PC's video and sound drivers are as up-to-date as possible.
    2) Restart your PC.
    3) Before opening any other programs, launch BttF Ep.5.
    4) Make sure all graphics quality options are at their lowest settings possible.
    5) Load up the save file that puts you right before the crash occurs.
    6) Play normally and see if you get the crash.

If you can avoid the crash by doing the above, please respond to this thread and let us know. That would be very useful information in figuring out what's causing this. Thanks!

Followed your 6 steps, and still got the crash. :(

Sorry to hear that this is happening, everyone. We definitely never encountered this during testing.

When you test your games, do you just use the newest/ up-to-date PC/MAC or do you have a variety of computers. (new, old, etc.) If not, you shoud consider on getting some so that you can gurantee that your future games (kind of ironic) will be able to work on multiple PCs/MACs, old or new, so we don't run into major problems like this in the future.

By the way, thanks for the saved games I'll post mine soon... (the one before where it crashes.)
  • edited June 2011
We use a range of PCs ranging from semi-high end to pretty outdated during testing to try and identify issues related to performance. Unfortunately, sometimes this kind of stuff still slips through. :(

Have downloaded the saved game files. Played through fine until the scene
where Edna is arrested and the Delorean disappears
, then the same error occurred at that point. Does seem to be a performance issue.
  • edited June 2011
Thanks for the savegame. I'm now experience another similar fatal crash at the point where Doc counts down and the DeLorean disappears. Right at the flash of light, the game crashed.

Attached is my DxDiag info, if it helps any.

I think the problem is that it those scenes are not compatible with the lower settings.

I tried them both with the settings at 5, and the scenes both played happily when they wouldn't at setting 1.

If somebody out there with a high-end machine could try playing those cutscenes at graphical quality setting 1 and see if they get a crash.

It makes sense to me that the offending scenes are crashing on lower end machines because lower end users all play on low settings. It's possible that the problem could simply be that those scenes can't work on the lower settings, even on a high-end machine.

Got another crash at another point. Right when
the delorean disappears at the police station, the flash of light freezes and crashes to desktop
my computer is a few years out dated so I expect it.

Someone for the love of sweet christ, HELP ME!

not the ending >_> Edna did something.... There still stuff you need to do to fix what Edna done....

Same crash happened.. and I don't want to use a save to get that past that part without seeing what happened during that scene....

Hi! The videos toward the end,
just after you hook up the flux capacitor of both cars
, are buggy. The video pauses and the sound keeps going. When it gets to the next line of dialogue it fixes itself but it happened a few times. You should polish that so it works all the way through since all movies before that work perfectly. There was another movie or two after that one that did the same thing, but I can't remember which ones they were.

Turning the graphics quality up fixed this for me too! Good workaround!

    TTG - Caleb,

I downloaded Episode 5 of BTTF from this website and I got both crashes. If I change the graphic setting to 5 right before the crash, it plays fine, but it slows down the game a lot. The game only runs normal on my computer at graphic setting 3 or lower. Once past the crash point, I can change it back to a lower setting and the game plays normal until the next crash point, where I change the setting again to 5 right before the crash, to get past it. So the glitch seems to be just at those 2 points in the game, when Hill valley disappears and when the second Delorean disappears. All the games I have bought from here only plays normal on my computer at graphic setting 3 or lower, but have always been fine. Episode 5 of BTTF is the only game I have bought that has had a glitch in it.
P.S. When I had installed episode 5 of BTTF, it took almost a half hour for the installer to open to begin installing. The problem could be the Installer.
