Have you ever heard of Archie comics?
I've always been a huge fan of Archie comics, however, as of late I've mentioned them to quite a few people my own age and a good persentage of them have never heard of these comics... now it's incredibly irritating to me since these are some of the few comics they still sell in drug stores, grocery stores, and the like and you see them staring you in the face every time you check out... how can people be so oblivious...

same here, I always thought that Archie in american culture was equal to mom and apple pie!
I've been recently collecting the new magazine (life with archie: The Married Life) Where they have two stories, one where he's married to veronica and the other to betty... This is a landmark event for me, Archie and betty/veronica finally got married! and in recently they've been doing comics where Lil' Jynx isn't little anymore... However, I run through the checkout and I get the oddest looks, like "WTF are you reading" and I KNOW it's purely over all the tweenage junk they clutter the cover with to sell them to tweenagers (I HATE having justin the beaver on the cover of my archie magazine) I also had an older woman look at me and with a straight face say "OMG I used to read these comics when I was a kid, I had no idea they still made them" THAT is pure oblivity.
You mean the jughead time police series? the one that had archie's greeeeeaaaaat grandaughter?
I've noticed that grocery stores seem to be carrying less and less issues of the archie comics, however I've also noticed they've started to release more and more double digests (there have been 3-4 new double digests released in the past year) so there MUST be a good market somewhere...
they're trying to stay fresh... They've had the "new look" comics, where they've turned the stories into graphic novels (which was cool), they put justin the beaver and lady (still to be proven) gaga on the front of almost every issue of the married life magazine (GAG!), and they just introduced their first openly gay character, (which is a little annoying since he's been in ONE comic, and he already has his own comic, however there are literally dozens of other great archie characters that have NEVER gotten their own comic)
The married life comics are a little odd though, without a doubt it's one of the darkest archie stories ever (I mean miss Grundy died of cancer within months of marrying "the bee") And yet they insist on throwing lady gaygay and just the bonehead on the cover... so they miss both their demographics, it doesn't appeal to tweens because of the comic material, and it doesn't appeal to the adults unless they are brave enough to buy a comic with shemale gaga and justin creeper on the cover...
That was exactly the one I was referring to. You must be an Archie junkie.
nah... they actually throw a time police story into the jughead double digests every once in awile =D
Both as the comic, and as Archie Comics (as they also produced a line of Sonic comics).
Heck one channel ran the cartoon series for a while.
It just never got anywhere in the UK really.
(I mean some places will get them on request, but its a really niche thing)
Oh, really? I didn't know there was more than one. I only saw the first one, in that case.
Heck yes! Fantastic comic series. Death Egg saga anyone? Endgame? Mecha Sonic? "Oh how I hate that hedgehog."
Which was just awful.
heh... if you regularly buy double digests you end up seeing it all since a good portion of the comics are usually reprints from earlier digests/comics =D
Yeah, pretty much says enough.
