Puzzle Agent 1 & 2 wont start

Im running windows xp and have bought both games through steam. When i try opening the games, my screen goes black as if to go to the menu but then it just closes. Please help :'(

    AMD Phenom II x6
    8 GB RAM
    VIA HD Audio
