Arrested Development Returns

edited November 2011 in General Chat
Arrested Development will be returning for ten more episodes and a movie.

Will Arnett and Jason Bateman have both gone ahead and confirmed this.
I'm peeing with @batemanjason at the moment..and we can confirm that we are going to make new AD eps and a movie
It's true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early '13. VERY excited!

I just blue myself.

I keep hearing good things about Arrested Development but I've never taken the time to give it a shot. I guess I should at some point.

I like this news. I was rather looking forward to a movie showing the characters reuniting after a long period of separation, and it sounds like the one-character-per-episode focus won't hurt that reveal.

I also still think that the longer it takes for this movie to come out, the funnier it'll be, just by virtue of how old George Micheal and Maebe are going to be, especially with how different Michael Cera looks now. I'm still hoping that
after all of the back and forth about whether or not they are cousins, and the finale ultimately suggesting that they are not... I would be greatly entertained if they turned out to somehow be half-siblings or something, closer than cousins. Just to shake it up.

Food for thought: 10 episodes, but only 9 main characters.

Looks like we're getting a Franklin reunion episode, then.

Well they did say 9-10 episodes, and it wouldn't be too surprising to have two different episodes centered on Micheal, or even an episode centered around a previously minor character. I still instinctively expect the movie itself to be the "reunion," though I suppose they may use the episodes to put the characters back together so that there's a simpler status quo at the start of the movie's plot. Hmm.

Well, but Jason Bateman seemed pretty certain on Ten in his tweet. I'd hope it'd show what happened to Barry, but he's the kind of character I don't think would do well on his own. Kitty/Maggie/Oscar seem like definite possibilities, though. Or perhaps Episode 10 will just be showing what's happened to the minor characters in the interim?

The odds of us getting 8+ 22 minute television episodes plus a theatrical movie are incredibly slim. This is just the actors and creator announcing that they want to do it - nobody with money is backing them up as of yet, though they do apparently have interest from Showtime and Netflix now (which might have been their intention in drumming up more hype). Showtime was also interested in 2007 though, so it's by no means a given that it actually happens this time. The current "news" isn't all that different than all of the other times it's been "confirmed" for the last 4 years.

I think that the high end of your expectations should be a handful of short (not 20 minute) "Netflixsodes".

This was not the air-tight official announcement it's been made out to be.

I don't know if you've realized, but Netflix is planning on getting involved in the world of premium content at roughly the same time this is currently expected to be released, so it's not a stretch seeing as I'd assume it to be among their more popular shows available.

Yea I know, I said Netflixsodes are the best possibility. Hopefully they'll overpay and can "air" them before they go bankrupt in a few years. It's going to be impossible for them to support several original series in addition to the thousands of other shows and movies for just $8 a month (and of course they already lost Starz).

Hulu, Showtime and IFC are all bidding on the rights to the show.

Amazon Prime members can watch all the episodes for free. I don't think it'll be a problem to get these episodes shown on TV.

The respective value of some of these actors has gone up also, which I think will play in its favor.

Higher production costs and in-demand actors who are already working full-time on other shows works in its favor?

Greater viewership interest due to greater exposure of said actors works in its favor.

The new episodes of Arrested Development have been picked up by Netflix. Say what you want about this, but I'm a Netflix subscriber with no plans of canceling so this s awesome.

Wonder if they're trying to counter their recent bad press by doing something awesome. Works for me!

Nah, the poster should be a picture of the Bluths and Ron Howard should say "It's Arrested Development" every three seconds. Get it stuck in peoples' heads and whatnot.
