How about doing some 2D games Telltale?

edited October 2011 in General Chat
This came from one of the discussions regarding on the look for the King's quest game. I did some heavy thinking about this one before bringing it into conversation on here. Now. I am aware that you guys have used Cel-shaded graphics for Strong bad's game and used the cel shading for Poker night.

But how about doing something fully 2D for video games? You know like a fully 2D animated video game. I am aware that you guys do 3D, but how about doing some with 2D animation? I'm talking about doing an adventure game with 2D animation. There are softwares to make things easier with 2D if money is an issue with this. But either way. It would be nice to see you guys produce some 2D animated adventure games. After all. There are video games out there that are done in 2D(Wario Land Shake it, A boy and his Blob to name a few).

Telltale has made every single one of it's games on a single engine that has become more and more easy to use as time has went on. Developing a new engine would take a huge amount of resources, whereas the Puzzle Agent 'half-2d' look works fine for the same purpose.

Um, I'm surprised that no-one's mentioned this but the Hector games ran on the TellTale engine (fully so in the case of episodes 2 and 3) and they were full-on 2D. As of this moment, the TellTale engine is fully capable of running 2D games. It's something I'd really like to see more of in the future; gorgeous hand-drawn backgrounds, with traditionally animated characters.

I'd love to see another 2D Monkey Island game. I thought that Curse and LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition were and still are beautiful games. They have a timeless quality because well produced 2D art will never age. Whereas, ToMI is going to look fairly dated ten years from now.

Having said that, I'll settle for any further Guybrush adventures, whether they be in 2D or 3D.

Still, I'm putting in my vote for some more 2D goodness for a future TellTale release. I guess it all depends upon the suitability of the licence they're working with.

The banner at the top of the screen in the 'How about doing some 2D games Telltale?' forum thread is an advertisement for a 2D game produced by Telltale. Just sayn'.

... yes it was. The PC version was produced by both Straandlooper and Telltale.

If the forum filled up with Bronies I'd be on here a lot less.

Not that I am the type of person who goes "YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO LIKE THIS", but many Bronies just like to shove it in the face of people who aren't.

You'd probably end up being one too. Admit it.

As for 2D games, I would LOVE to see Telltale tackle a 2D Sam and Max.

Still... a money bringing shooting gallery! :D
If I had a game making company, I would invest in such a game. All I'm saying is that there are probably more MLP fans than Walking Dead or Fables. Probably.

Or how about Loom! Loom would be awesome in 2D if they get someone like Bill Tiller to draw the backgrounds.

Thanks for pointing that out to the uninformed masses.

Who do you think put all of Straandlooper's ideas together using the TellTale game engine for episodes 2 & 3 people? Magic freakin' faries?!

    *drool*

Damn it, quit torturing me with great concepts which will never come to pass, Wolfy.

The thing about MLP is the majority of the people who are Bronies are also 4chan frequenters, therefore are likely to just torrent said game rather than support it.

    You never know...
Since I joined the TTG forums, I am not capable (I repeat: capable) of downloading any of Telltale's games through piratey ways.
I just can't. I talked with these guys, some of them are my friends!
I'd rather not play a TTG game (until I can gather enough money) rather than pirating it.

As for MLP, out of curiosity I looked around the web to see what the fuss is about. Show aside, it saddens me to see so much anger tossed around, based on people's preferences. :(

    Are people really that... narrow-minded?
If I ever want to make sure my fans get "filtered", I should just make a MLP Tribute. :p Open-mind FTW.

Lets try to bring this back on topic shall we? I dont think there's any chance of Telltale producing 2D games, but how about doing 2D cutscenes? Sly cooper was a cel-shaded game(that "feels" like 2D) but however the cutscenes were animated with 2D animation.

Btw, I always imagined that Telltale should do 2D cutscenes for the Sam and Max games. Done in Steve's art style on the comics. That would be a good idea for the next sam and max game.

I think it would be a bit jarring to be playing in 3-D, then suddenly see it do things by itself in 2-D, only to play in 3-D again after that. Unless there was some logical explanation for it, like I'm playing the characters in a book, and in the cutscenes, it zooms out from the book to show the scene as a picture on a printed page.
