Well, the skit was my first thought when you made that post (which ninja'd mine, by the way), but then you seemed to miss the point of my post entirely.

I suppose this is what I get for trying to modernize Monty Python to the Information Age.
Just out of interest, what's everybody's opinion of Mr. James Hendrix? I'm surprised this thread has gone on for so long without there being any serious discussion surrounding him.

I'm not a massive fan, it's another case of he done great things for the time, but the pioneer is never the master of the art.
One of My Favorite (Besides Slash and Young) Is The Now Dead Chuck Berry. (IMO The True King of Rock and Roll) After Researching him it seems he Probably
did more to Innovate and advance The guitar in rock and roll than Elvis did in His whole Life.(Probably).
Or as One Critic put it:"If Elvis was the icon of Rock and Roll, Chuck Berry was it's Heartbeat and Soul."

Stevie Ray Vaughan
Joe Satriani

Personally, I thought Jimi Hendrix was only half as good as everyone claims him to be. Being high on dope doesn’t make you great, but apparently dying from an OD on barbiturates will make anyone seen as a legend.

Hendrix is highly praised as a guitarist, but it's often not in regards to his technical ability. What made Hendrix so great was his ability and endeavor to experiment, which is something he did constantly. He was a pioneer; he was constantly trying new things, pushing the existing boundaries of rock and pop music, taking it into new territories, and testing out what the electric guitar could do as an instrument. As a result, he broadened the rock music playing field, in a sense, opened new doors, and paved the way for thousands of musical acts to follow.
At the time of his musical career, however, he wasn't praised in the same way that he is today. But that's only because it takes reflection to realize just how revolutionary a musician (or public figure of any kind) truly was, and it takes a retrospective to see the impact of that person on their culture, and, in Hendrix's case, on the music world. Whilst it's happening, it's hard to gage. This is why Hendrix has been exalted since his death, because it was his passing that made people reflect on him; on what he did.
Also, on top of being a revolutionary musician, he was also a top player for his time, and a very interesting man, both in musicality and personality. The guy is revered for a reason.
The smashing-guitar-then-setting-on-fire thing? Yeah, he was as high as a kite. But he was a great guitarist, which is more than I can say about some so-called “greats”, who shall remain nameless. Hey Joe, Foxey Lady, Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) and Stone Crazy are all great songs.
BTW, Stevie Ray Vaughan did the best version of Little Wing, even better than Hendrix’s.
Yes. YES HE DOES. Maybe he doesn't have all the crazy techniques down that other revered guitarists do, but he has SOUL in his playing and in his compositions. There is nobody else like him.

Only he can make me buy a 5th copy of his first album and not regrett it.
You like following the crowd then, eh? He's got a pretty wide range of styles to choose from. On almost every album. Yet, it's all so uncategorizable at the same time. With so much variety it's hard to pinpoint just one "kind of music" that he does. You must just dislike creativity.
All kidding aside, I'd really like to know what you call his "kind of music."

Is that a five minute argument or the full half-hour?

Maybe I'm getting to subtle in my advanced age.
I love Monty Python.
Knight: How do you know she is a witch?
Peasant: She turned me into a newt!
Knight: A newt!?
Peasant: I got better..

Edit: But, then again, this is the internet; I should have known that Monty Python referencing was soon to commence.

My my, I wonder what this word could be.
Mind if I just start by asking you how much of Motorhead's music you've actually heard?
He must mean "shirty" cos I can't think of what else it could possibly be.
No it's not.
Shitty.
No, that can't be right.

Fuck the police.

That's a pretty great way of summing him up overall, actually.
Hell yeah, they are! I dropped Santana completely after hearing their cover of Back in Black!
And also, what is the reason to start a thread asking who is your favourite guitarist and when you actually answer you are being bad mouthed?
22. How old are you?

What? How is this related?
I’m saying that being stoned as shit doesn’t make you a great musician, but that is for some reason what people remember the most about Hendrix.

Best/most talented guitarist: Jimmy Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen.
I think you forgot to take your pills that stop you from being absolutely mental this morning.
Musical talent isn't all about technical ability.
