[JP] Steam Resolution Setting File

edited February 2012 in Game Support
I tried to set the resolution (up) to my usual 1680 x 1050, but since there was no drop box, I had to click the arrows to find it. Well, I must have hit a resolution my monitor does not support, as now I can't see the screen any more to continue to my resolution. Firstly, a big "tsk tsk" for not having a drop box, and second, how do I manually set resolution? Anyone know where the config file is?

The config file is prefs.prop, but I don't think it's human readable.

Hmmm... that file doesn't even exist in any search I run. Any idea where it may be?

Same place as your saved games. At least that's where it lived and that's what it was called with previous Telltale games - I've no way of confirming right now as I'm still downloading JP myself. I'll check back as soon as I can.

same problem, tried changing the resolution, now stuck with a black screen.

    :-(
  • edited November 2011
I had the black screen to begin with.I will admit that my computer isnt the best when it comes to graphics but I have been able to play tt games on the lowest resolution setting before now. But again no drop box.

Same thing happened to me. I switched the resolution and now I can't get back into the game. I swear with stupid little bugs like this Telltale didn't test their game. If you switch resolutions "real" games will give you a chance to see if the resolution works, otherwise the game will revert back to the original working resolution. Looks like I'll have to wait until tomorrow until someone at Telltale is working to try to fix this issue.

So far I give Telltale a huge F! I'm a big fan of Jurassic Park and I was looking forward to playing this game. Maybe I should ask for a refund and not waste my time.
  • edited November 2011
You can delete the prefs.prop file under Documents\Telltale Games\Jurassic Park The Game to reset the graphics options. That issue is going to be looked into further first thing in the morning, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thing is I couldnt adjust it in the first place. Are the login and menu screens supposed to be black? I only ask because there was a background to all of the other log in screens for sam and max and bttf.
  • edited November 2011
I tried deleting that file and it didn't work. Everytime I start the game the screen goes black and my monitor flashes un supported resolution. I could change the resolution the first time I installed the game.

I think the setting files are saved online or something. I went and deleted the entire folder under documents and when I restarted the game all the files came right back.

Give this a go: right-click the launcher exe, go to Properties -> Compatibility, and tick "Run in 640x480 screen resolution".

    Didn't work.

Is there anything under "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\your account name\JP" (or similar kind of path)?
  • edited November 2011
I didn't use steam for my download. I downloaded it from Telltale's website.
  • edited November 2011
The prefs.prop file may be under Documents\Telltale Games\Jurassic Park the Game if you're using Windows 7.

For XP, I believe the file is under My Documents\Telltale Games\Jurassic Park the Game

What happens if you delete everything inside the prefs.prop file? i.e. you'll still have a file called prefs.prop, but it's blank inside.
  • edited November 2011
I deleted that file and it didn't fix my problem. The game still wont load. I can hear the menu music just fine. Worked fine before I changed resolutions.

THAT WORKED!!! Thanks puzzlebox!!! Delete everything in the prefs.prop file and the game will start in a windowed mode. Your awesome!

Thanks again. So far game is great.

Deleted prefs.prop - no change. Settings must be saved online or something. So game = unplayable with a black, unsupported resolution, screen.

Please try pressing Alt-Enter while the screen is black. It should set the game to windowed mode and show the graphics properly again.
While in windowed mode you can switch through the resolutions faster, and your monitor shouldn't care about the unsupported resolutions in between.
Once you have found the resolution of your choice, you can press Alt-Enter again to see if it works in Fullscreen too.

This was really a silly design to make you scroll through (and apply each time) the resolutions. Drop down box ftw.

    run regedit

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Telltale Games\JPGraphics
    or
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Telltale Games\JPGraphics

change ResX and ResY to what you need

So I have done all of the things on this thread and still no change. The background is black with the menu. The opening chase scene has a shadow holding the shaving cream can. Also, I cannot see the commands to do things while she is running. There are just black boxes over them. The only things I can see at all are some plants and fog. The rest are just black boxes hanging in the air.

That's a different issue than having set a resolution that the monitor doesn't support.
Would you please post a dxdiag log:

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

Description: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
    Date and Size: 3/26/2008 05:35:54, 2103512 bytes

For now all i can recommend you is to install the latest Realtek HDA driver.

I'm guessing that even though your 9200 meets the minimum spec, it isn't cutting it. A 9200 is really weak. Try turning down video options

How? I cant get the settings on the menu to work. Ive tried that regedit thing too to change the resolution but was afraid to change anything else. Im not really computer savvy so I have no clue what else to try.

    Worked for me. Thanks!

in the same graphics portion of the registry, change:

    Aftereffects to false
    RenderQuality to 1
    ShadowQuality to 1

remember what the values were before in case it does not help or it messes up more

If you don't know about regedit, it's safer to use the file i posted here instead.
