Sognificant Frame Rate Drops - Nearly Unplayable

UPDATE: A potential workaround for people with a similar experience using ATi/AMD based cards can try dropping their Quality setting from "Highest" to "High" or "Medium" as a workaround.

I had to stop playing just a few minutes in due to this problem. The scene where you are using the binoculars to spot dinosaurs was the scene that I gave up during. The frames will freeze, audio continues and then the rendering begins again, well behind the audio. Although not the only trigger, it happens every time the steam overlay displays an achievement.

    i have same thing on my msi gx660 gaming laptop , i will update driver tomorrow because i am french and its 5:31 am in my country , i need sleep :)
    i just play prologue 2 min but i think this game can be great :) i hope update driver can fix that , do you know if game work with nvidia 3d vision ? because if its work i will install on my desktop gaming computer .

    No change on the 11/15 Catalyst release. It's the exact same spots every time which makes me wonder if it's a texture caching problem. I have attempted to disable AMD specific driver 'tweaks' that are on by default such as "AMD Optimized" tesselation and "Enable Surface Format Optimization" under Catalyst A.I. with no change.

    Would a video of the problem be helpful in any way since it runs into the drops at the same places?

    I know you shouldn't need to on that system, but I'm trying to determine what's causing it.

    Same here, it's like the game freezes out and audio is still playing. I only got to the binoculars scene tought. I'm also on HD5870, core i5 750 and running latest drivers 11.11.

    Here was my setup -

    1920x1200
    All graphical settings maxed

    After toying around with disabling some of them one at a time and re-running that second scene of Episode 1 it was improved significantly only by dropping from Highest to High.

    It's playable for that scene anyway, haven't gone beyond that but my guess is whatever additional model/texture/post processing that is being enabled by Highest Quality is what triggers the stuttering, dropping frames and audio sync issues.

    Hope this helps others until a fix is available since I hope my machine has enough spare power to push JP through its paces. :)

    Very similar setup. I changed from Highest to High or Medium and it seems to be rectified. The game is no Crysis but Highest does look a lot better than the lower-level details. Would like to play it on this especially for the foreground/background cinematic effect (this looks really nice.)

    Def turn down from highest to high in graphical quality. Highest seems to include a depth of field effect that gets your comp into trouble at certain spots, like when a Dino runs close to game camera and focus shifts to it, rapidly changing depth of field effects.

    While the dof is gorgeous, turning from highest to high should help perf a lot.

    Off the top of my head

    1.8 duo core
    8 GB ram
    Low-end 1 GB vid card (about as strong as really great 512s)

    I had to drop it from highest to high in order to get it to stop hanging like yours. Certainly not due to low end hardware.

    SAME HERE:

    I updated my ATI driver - which actually didn't change any of the major lags.
    But I experienced a much smoother gameplay, when tuning the graphical settings from highest down to high. as a result the DOF effects are gone but this provides much fewer lags.
    It seems that the depth of field doesn't work even on high end pcs.
