JP mac Can't progress in episode 1

At the end of (part4?) in episode one, right before the Nedrey jeep area.. the game puts me back to the main menu and doesn't unlock the next sequence. I've replayed it, and both times, right when the clearing is found this happens.
There are also times, when the menu options are invisible.
Any advice or patch forthcoming?

2011 Macbookpro.
OSX Lion 10.7.2 (up to date). 8gb ram, 2.2 ghz I7, Radeon 6750 1gb vram (dedicated).

    Can't do this on the PC version either - is it a problen with the installation?

    You're loading a game and not going through the Scenarios menu, correct?
