Jurassic Park crashes in full screen - plays fine in window

edited January 2012 in Game Support
Jurassic Park plays fine in windowed mode. But whenever I switch to full screen, it always crashes with the error message "Jurassicpark100.exe has stopped working." No matter what resolution I set it in, it performs perfectly in windowed mode but crashes in full screen. I even experimented and placed all graphics settings to the lowest quality but I still get the problem.

I have a new computer, 8 gigs of RAM, latest video drivers for a Radeon HD 6770M, so I'm guessing there is some kind of software glitch. I'd appreciate your help. It seems that many players are getting similar problems with this game.

Below is my DXdiag log:

Please try setting your display color depth to 32 bit.

It worked! I don't know why I didn't catch that. I switched it a while back to 16 bit for an older game and I guess I forgot to set it back to 32bit. Thanks a million! :)

Hi there. Please post a dxdiag log:

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

i have got it on big screen but it keeps hanging. I have put the graphics to high instead of highest.....when i control the characters, it takes awhile before it responds. But if i am honest, could i send a mail to you personally. Because i don`t like putting this kind of information to you on the web. Just incase people will break in and hack in to my system......This kind of information doesn`t cause any problems with me putting this on the web??? sorry!!! Just trying to be cautious.:D

You can click on my Username and select "send a private message...".
I am not a Telltale Games Employee, I am a Moderator on the Forums chosen by TTG from the Community, but i do a lot of support here too.

My next answer will probably take a while. It's late in my timezone...

After launching the game for the first time, I clicked on the full screen mode and immediately experienced a black (blank) screen, resulting in a totally unresponsive PC.

Every subsequent attempt to start the game produced the same result – after logging in, the window would automatically start to maximize, then the screen would go blank again.

I have completely uninstalled/reinstalled JurassicPark several times (I did not save the settings) but nothing has changed.

    Thanks in advance...

and especially since you don`t work in TTG

You can look at my previous work here in the support forum and decide for yourself.
Otherwise you can just write an E-Mail to support@telltalegames.com.

After launching the game for the first time, I clicked on the full screen mode and immediately experienced a black (blank) screen, resulting in a totally unresponsive PC.

Please try pressing Alt-Enter during the black screen. That should set the game to windowed mode, and enable you to change to a resolution your display supports.

I also recommend to update your graphics- and sound drivers.

hi, thanks for mailing me. Okay:) i was wondering if you could help me? With what i mentioned earlier??

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
    Driver Date/Size: 3/31/2011 00:54:38, 7473664 bytes

Description: Speakers (Conexant 20671 SmartAudio HD)
    Date and Size: 11/23/2010 07:50:12, 1567360 bytes

So the latest status is, that it works in fullscreen, but it is slow?
In that case you should start on the lowest graphics settings, and increase them as long as it works well.

You might also want to update your drivers, either manually from Lenovos website, or by using the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox for automatic updates.

According to the Lenovo Support page there are newer Audio and Video drivers than the ones in your dxdiag.

What do you mean by that? Does the application stop responding?

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. You have a notebook with integrated graphics, which are not the most powerful out there. Therefore you have to pick the graphics settings which work best on that.

Please try pressing Alt-Enter during the black screen. That should set the game to windowed mode, and enable you to change to a resolution your display supports.

I also recommend to update your graphics- and sound drivers.

    Well, Alt+Enter didn't work...

hi, i have lowered the graphics settings in the game to low and the shadow settings as well to low. In some scenes it still hangs. Everything on Lenovo is updated and so is windows 7. i was wondering the game itself works fine. but i was wondering if the game is too powerful for the laptop.....? i have removed the game and installed it again but the problem still happens... Any advice? thanks:)

It is possible that the integrated GPU is not powerful enough for the more elaborate scenes.
What resolution have you selected in-game?
Have you tried setting Aftereffects and Anti-Aliasing to "off"?

If it still hangs, you can try setting the resolution to 848x480 for a little test. With that setting, play again through a part that hung with higher settings, to see if it helps. If it does, you can try the same with higher resolutions, to find the one that works best for you.

    I had already tried that...

Well, I tried it again and I also updated my video drivers as DjNDB suggested (sound drivers are up to date).

Nothing has changed -- I still get a black screen and a totally unresponsive PC upon logging in.

Some games don't work well if multiple displays are present.
Please try disabling all but one display before you start the game.

    I see.
Some graphics settings are stored in the registry.
I attached a file that sets them to 800x600, windowed mode, with lowest settings.
You just need to unzip it, double click the Jurassic_Park_TG-Low-Windowed.reg, and confirm. Afterwards please try starting Jurassic Park again.

Figured it out had to set the controls to "true" in the registry.
