Is This REALLY Necessary??

Alright so I was browsing IGN and came across this piece of news that has in spreading though the internet: http://games.ign.com/articles/121/1214362p1.html

The Most intresting and the main Point is This
Except if you're a popular gaming headset manufacturer.

To demonstrate that its audio systems "take you there" the New Zealand branch of said headset company is taking a 24-year-old Kiwi gamer to a real warzone: Iraq.

"Gamers play in virtual warzones every day and night, and they want the immersive feeling of combat so we thought we'd take that experience one step further," said a spokesperson for the company. "The whole project has been an experience. Though there was a huge amount of planning it's fair to say the journey proved... interesting."

Note that this as been done with Battlefield before recently, However what worries me is the whole immersive feeling of combat line which just doesn't sit right with me for some reason.

    This whole thing is sick.

Would you take pictures of starving children to sell candy? I mean, seriously. Who the hell thought this would be a good idea? They really need to get their priorities in order. Donating all the profits they make from this headset to Iraq would be a good start.

I find that stupid. The act itself, not the people. They are just trying to find innovative ways of selling their products.

Isn't there already too much war going on? Do we REALLY need another war game that "takes you there"?

    I never liked war games.

Meh, what's the problem? If the war-tourist gets shot, presumably he'll just respawn?

I have to assume this is a case of "any publicity is good publicity". They just can't have thought that this'd be a good idea. It just has to be a publicity stunt.

If this isn't a stunt, then I can't see how it promotes their headsets in anyway... it has elements of "look! Isn't what we're doing crazy?!" but no elements of "look! Doesn't this demonstrate the efficacy of our hardware?!"
