New Van Halen album

edited January 2012 in General Chat
I am psyched out of my mind about this. The name of the album is A Different Kind of Truth.

Here is a music video of one of the songs.

What do you think?

Heh. You can be hyped about that all you like.

I personally am anticipating Rush's Clockwork Angels!

EDIT: Hmm... The song posted is pretty good.
And from what this article says, looks like the band is getting a bit heavier than normal.

Good to see a band try something different.

If the reviews are good, might pick this up.

Neil Peart is pretty damn good, but he is nothing compared to Buddy Rich.

Have you heard the new song? The new Van Halen sounds like shit. They are dead to me.
Okay, maybe not "shit", but it sounds like what they would once call "album filler"....and it just sounds worse without Michael Anthony....and THIS is the song they were excited about?

Ohhhh, in work at the mo but i'll be sure to listen to this when I get home, dubious of vourse cos XMichael Anthony was the man and his dismissal was pure bullshoes.

As an aside, Van Halen. Have recorded some pretty heavy songs before, just all anyone hears from them is Jump.

I was always a big fan of the Dave era.... but stuff like Humans Being(even Not Enough) slowly pulled me to the Sammy side. ...after all the BS, I'm definitely on the Sammy side now.

Even the worst of the Sammy Haggar era songs have more hooks than this song, not to mention it's just a worse version of this http://youtu.be/aVU-xFtI8iU

I'm not going to write off the new album completely just yet, but Tattoo is "meh" at best. I really enjoy me some old school David Lee Roth-era Van Halen, but if this is the best they've got I'm not interested.

Come on, i'm sick of this Hagar/Roth BS. Hagar has a terrific voice and he is a great song writer. Roth is a perfect showman with a great singing voice.

I actually met Sammy Hagar at the San Francisco Zoo back in 09. I barely even knew who Van Halen was, and when my Dad introduced me to him, it went in one ear and out the other.

Also I got tickets to their show at Oracle Center in Oakland on 6/3/2012. Boo yah!

You're sick of hearing about it...after 2 years? Try decades. Roth doesn't have the voice anymore(friends walked out of a recent show actually, and they were big Roth fans). Roth was right initially about the synth back in the day... but the song writing became much better and more professional, besides, Eddie's synth phase didn't last too long. Sammy is a much better writer and that probably helped(I don't think anyone can argue that, check their solo catalogues).

The BS I was referring to revolved around Hagar, Michael Anthony and Eddie's alcoholism. While, I personally like Sammy better than Dave, my issue isn't with Dave. It's with Eddie. The hatchet of old between Van/Roth and Van/Hagar was buried to me when both eras crossed in the 90's. Eddie's relapse into alcoholism that caused his ego to rise above the band while his dedication, skill and performance suffered was a problem however..

I saw them in '04 at the beginning of the tour..Eddie was still playing fairly good(which I heard soon changed) but he looked like roadkill and wandered off the stage a few times....for no reason(we could still see him...he just stood there). He now claims to be clean but has apparently made no attempt to even acknowledge anything happened(honestly, he probably doesn't even remember) and just chooses to act like Sammy and Michael never existed. Eddie is a douche bag and Hagar/Anthony are doing fine without him.

Pretty much what Johro said. Van Halen improved so so much as a band with in the Van Hagar years, but Eddies hubris just ruins everything. Roth's a great frontman and all that, but I came for the music first and foremost and if he can't perform live then what's the point?

I think Hagar and Michael Anthony deserve better than they're currently doing, they're currently Satch and that dude from the RHCPs bit on the side and they can do far better as long as they can stay faithful to what made them successful but relevant (which is somewhat impossible as rock's currently dead, waiting in the shadows to make a comeback)

I've always loved Eddie Van Halen's music, but hated everything else about the band. Every time I see DLR I want to punch him in the face, and I have no idea why. The new song actually isn't terrible to my ears though, if you're feeling nostalgic for '80s glam rock I guess.

I keep listening to Tattoo in the hopes that it will grow on me, but it seems to be refusing to.
