    Hi,

I replied to your email shortly after you sent it on the 19'th and you never got back to me with the DXDiag file that I requested.

To send a DXDiag, click the Start menu, click Run, and then type in DXDiag and press enter. After it loads, click Save All Information and save the file where you'll be able to easily find it. Open the file and then press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents of the file, and then include that in a reply.

    Thanks,
    Michael

Your video and audio drivers haven't been updated in a few years. Can you try updating to the latest versions available from Nvidia and Realtek and see if that helps, please?
  • edited January 2012
    Dear Michael
    Thanks for your reply.
On NVIDIA site, I got a message telling that my driver (175.16) is the most recent updated version. I downloaded a most recent version I found on another site (280.26) but the installation blocked with a message saying that there is no device corresponding to this driver.
I installed the most recent driver for REALTEK but nothing changed.
However I have an additional information to share with you: since my first request, I found another way to start the game by using the application of each episode (1 to 5) in the corresponding installed programme files, without using the Autorun file which doesn't work. Stangely, I succeeded to start episodes 3 to 5 while for episodes 1 & 2, I can open them but there are only sound and subtitles without any video image.
Sorry for this long message but I am afraid that there is a compability issue between the game and the video card, even if my system features are corresponding to those written on the commercial box of the game.
Finally I asked to the vendor (FNAC) to refund me what they refused saying that this is Teltale games who should do it..
Please let me know what I can do and once more, thanks for your help
    Best
    Herve

    Hi Michael
    I checked for updates:
    - NVIDIA site replyed that I have the most recent driver (175.16). However I downloded another version (280.26) but when I tried to install it I got a message as the install program does not find any prog correspondig to that update.
    - REALTEK: I updated with the most recent driver I found (WDM_A406) but that doesn't work and I still have no video on episodes 1 & 2, but only the sound and subtitles.

Since my initial request I found that I can start the game by using the application file of each episode (e.g. MonkeyIsland101 por episode 1) and not the autorun one. Doing that I cannot get video for episodes 1 & 2, and slow videos for the ep 3 to 5

To complete information I request a rund to the store where I bought the game (FNAC) but they refused saying that this should be done by Teltale Games.

Hope you can let me know what I can do.

    Thanks and best
    Herve

You could try the 175.19 Nvidia driver. It's only slightly newer, but maybe that helps already.

Another thing you could try is replacing the prefs.prop files of the episodes. They contain lower graphics settings, which might get your video working.
  • edited January 2012
    Thanks DjNDB
I installed the driver update and nothing changed.
Concerning the link prefs;prop files, the zip file to be downloaded doesn't open with a message saying this file is an unvalid archive...
Is there another site where I could find the valid one ?
    Thanks and best

The file works for me, using 7-zip. What program do you use to open it?
  • edited January 2012
I was using winzip. I opened it with 7-zip but i am wondering where i should extract the file because there is only one prefs.prop file while there are 5 episodes; i do not have a unique dossier "NAME of a game" as said in the post of your link.
    Thanks

The prefs.prop of each episode should be copied to a folder named like the episode. It looks like the naming is a bit different in the zip file though. Here's the Mapping:

Tales of Monkey Island 101 = Launch of the Screaming Narwhal
Tales of Monkey Island 102 = The Siege of Spinner Cay
Tales of Monkey Island 103 = Lair of the Leviathan
Tales of Monkey Island 104 = The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood
Tales of Monkey Island 105 = Rise of the Pirate God

Let's try this for the first episode.
Do you have a "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal" folder in "\My Documents\Telltale Games\"?
That's where the prefs.prop from the zip folder "Tales of Monkey Island 101" should be copied to, replacing the old one.
  • edited January 2012
Yes I have a "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal" folder in "\My Documents\Telltale Games\" where I copied the new prefs.prop file. It doesn't work and I have lost the subtitles and the window game cannot open in full screen...
Strangely, I noticed that the "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal" folder is the only one with a name in "\My Documents\Telltale Games\", three others being "Episode 1 , 2 , 3" and the fourth one named "Tales of monkey island" ! it seems there's a bug when I installed the game, isn't it.
In the Programs section I have well the file folders as follows:
Tales of Monkey Island 101 = Launch of the Screaming Narwhal
Tales of Monkey Island 102 = The Siege of Spinner Cay
Tales of Monkey Island 103 = Lair of the Leviathan
Tales of Monkey Island 104 = The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood
Tales of Monkey Island 105 = Rise of the Pirate God

    Thanks for help.

I don't really know what kind of DVD you have, it might be different from the official TTG DVD in some aspects i don't know about.
Is it a localized french version?

It's probably best to keep testing with "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal" only for now. I am not sure i understand what the current status is.
Since you say you lost the subtitles, does that mean that video works now?
Does it crash when you switch to full screen?
  • edited January 2012
Unfortunately, the 1st episode is still not working. There is no video image, only sound in english and music, and no option to enlarge the window to full screen.
This is an official version sold in a regular store famous in France (FNAC), in English with French subtitles.
I expect that Michael Parks from Teltale team could do something else for me.
Once more, many thanks for your support!

If you bought the game at a FNAC store, it's probably the version released in France by Focus Home Interactive.
The game's official website is here and you might get better help regarding that specific version in their forums (as I was typing this, I noticed that you have an open thread on said forum with no answer since January 24... it's possible that Telltale's forums might give you a solution faster... at least until DjNDB realizes that it's high time he learned French! ;)).

Merci Macfly 77. Etes-vous Frenchie ? Sinon bravo pour votre français !
I continue with my bad english because as you said, I expect more from the Teltale forum than from the Focus Home Interactive one where my thread doesn't seem to interest anybody...
    A bientôt

Actually I had 4 years of French in school, but i was mediocre, and i stopped trying 17 years ago.

Let's hope that Michael has some more ideas, but he is in the PST Timezone and it's Weekend, so it is possible that it takes a while.

There's one more thing we can try though. In order to test if the problem is specific to your version, or with the game in general, you could try if the Demo works on your system.

But please uninstall the DVD Version first, and delete the "\My Documents\Telltale Games\Launch of the Screaming Narwhal" folder, so the previous installation doesn't interfere.

I got video with the demo but it is very slow and driving the mouse to click and drag is just like a random game...!
I am afraid this game cannot be used on my system correctly, despite my system complies with the features announced on the Tales of Monkey commercial box.

    edited January 2012
Yes, your system is not exactly up to date, but i thought it was worth trying.

That the demo works is a good sign actually. The slow mouse happens with weak graphics cards. Now you can try reducing the "graphics quality" setting to 1.
  • edited January 2012
The demo perfectly works with Quality setting at level 1 !

I will reinstall my DVD and let you know...

    Thanks

That's great. Remember uninstalling the demo first.
  • edited January 2012
I already did it. I think I could become a pro adivisor on this game in the near future ;-)
  • edited January 2012
As I feared, it does not work for episodes 1 & 2, but it works very well in quality level 1 for the last three ones.
I relly think there is a bug in the DVD I bought and I expect that Teltale team could help me to get in touch with Focus Home Interactive, as at the end they should have some link with this distributor, and their logo and that of Lucas Art are both on the box cover of the DVD.
Hope Michael will see my message.

At least we have narrowed it down a bit now and i hope you'll find a solution.

Otherwise, trying a different graphics card could help too.

    Hi DjNDB
I sent a private message to Michael Parks (see hereunder) but did not receive any reply.
Could you help to get one from him or Teltale team?
    Thanks
    Herve

    Hi Michael
I imagine you're off during the week-end, but I hope you will have a look of the discussion I had with a community moderator, DjNDB, yesterday.
As you will see, we have narrowed down a bit the issues I have with the game, and I'm able to read video in the episodes 3 to 5 by lowering the Quality setting to level 1.
Unfortunately it doesn't work for the two first episodes, while I can read it with the demo of ep1 downloaded on your site.
So I am wondering if the Teltale team would be kind enough to offer me a free download of the episodes 1 & 2, and I will finish the game with my DVD for the 3 others.
I also opened a thread in the forum of Focus Home Interactive who relased your game in france, but never got any reply...
    Thanks to let me know what you can do;
    Best

    Hi,

I've sent you a couple of emails; I'm not sure why you haven't received them.

I added Episode 1 to your account as a test, but the version should be basically the same as what you have now. Please let me know if you have any success with it, though, and I'll add Episode 2.

You may be having luck with the latter episodes of the series due to changes made in the engine and art assets, but the crux of the problem is that you're using legacy hardware with fairly out of date drivers. All the video issues you're seeing, including the laggy mouse, are definitely related to that. Unfortunately, there isn't a ton of troubleshooting that can be done to resolve it. New drivers would probably help, but as a legacy device, Nvidia isn't supporting that card any more.

Please let me know if you have any luck with the episode downloaded from our site, though, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi Michael
I did not receive your emails. It could be due to the SpamWars I use to protect my box. You should have received a request from the system for confirming your adress to be accepted. Another way to allow your emails entering is that you give me your email adress and I could add it in my white list.
Thanks for the Episode 1 you added for free in my account. Unfortunately it does not work, and I even cannot open it at all for changing the options while I can with my DVD program. As I installed the DVD "French" version maybe there is a conflict with. So I will retry when I complete the episodes 3-5 I'ma playing currently and will let you know what happens.
Let me remind you that the demo of episode 1 downloaded on your site was working... Maybe the demo video is lighter and simpler than the full version... Is there a way to cut the Episode 1 in two or three parts for acheving a compatible prog with my system?
    Thanks & best

If you installed the downloaded Episode 1 without uninstalling the DVD Version, you probably get a broken installation of Episode 1. I tested that earlier.

By default they install into the same folder which breaks the Episode. It seems to work okay, if I choose a different installation folder for the downloaded Episode. That's something you could try.
  • edited February 2012
Thanks DjNDB, it works by installing in a different folder and I can read the full Episode 1 thanks to Michael.
Hope I could get also the episode 2...

I downloaded only the Episode 2, as I already played the 3 and 4 from my French DVD. If I'd have problem with the n°5 I would use your kind offer.
Pass on all my best wishes to Teltale team.
