Crap.
We do have a big problem with alcoholism but around here drinking is part of the culture so peopke don't really need an excuse to get drunk. There is a slight hypocracy in using the name of an English Saint who was kidnapped by the Irish and made a slave there, to celebrate being Irish and drinking.
How's that make a difference?
My family always has corned beef and cabbage, drinks whiskey, tries to remember any old Irish songs and ends up singing Tom Lehrer songs instead. Though we do have some old Irish blessings and I know just enough Gaelic to start them off before we have to switch to English.
Nothing he did or had happen to him was done whilst he was considered a saint.
Why do other countries celebrate St. Patricks by eating rotten food? Corned beef and cabbage? Boke city. I made ravioli in a white sauce with ham and mushrooms, and I did it whilst pissed as a fart.
Well, I know for me it's because since most Irish (including my ancestors) who came to America around the potato famine were dirt poor, corned beef and cabbage was a pretty extravagant meal and so was used for holidays and the like.
We just keep up the tradition, now.
Back to yer diddly-dee potatoes, Paddy.
>Be a comedian.
>Call yourself Danny Bhoy.
>Do a piece about people mistakenly thinking you're Irish.
I'm not even sure he's Scottish, he had one of those tan things!
People celebrate St Patrick's day?
