I don't drink, so I celebrated by buying some Lucky Charms instead. Woo! Happy Green Irish Drinking Day!

    Alcohol. It's what's for dinner.

Okay so the local block parties are starting right now. I'm debating whether or not I want to start hitting the bar. Or wait until a more sensible time.

Depends on how much money you have. Got a lot? Start now, whitey.
  • edited March 2012
lol. I do have a lot. My biggest concern is there won't really be a lot of pretty women out until later. I'm thinking I'll head out in two hours.
  • edited March 2012
Dude, if you start drinking now, then the ladies don't have to be pretty. You'll be too drunk to notice. Or care!
  • edited March 2012
Haha. I concede to your wisdom.

but then the morning is twice as bad... longer hang over and you have NO clue what you'll wake up next to.

I find it weird that in America St Patrick's day is such a bigger thing than in Australia where we have a similar history of Irish immigration and Irish herritage is the third largest ancestry.

Is alcoholism as rampant there as it is here... most people do not even know what St Pats is about.. they just think its a day to pretend to be Irish and get drunk.... Goes double here in WI most people are of German ancestry and we have the (last I checked) highest arrests for drunk driving in the country.. but we are also one of the few states that its a traffic violation and not a straight up criminal charge.

Bar número UNO! They've got the blocked sealed off, two stages for bands, six outside bars and a dj for the interior

We do have a big problem with alcoholism but around here drinking is part of the culture so peopke don't really need an excuse to get drunk. There is a slight hypocracy in using the name of an English Saint who was kidnapped by the Irish and made a slave there, to celebrate being Irish and drinking.

well technically you cant become a saint until you're dead...

My family always has corned beef and cabbage, drinks whiskey, tries to remember any old Irish songs and ends up singing Tom Lehrer songs instead. Though we do have some old Irish blessings and I know just enough Gaelic to start them off before we have to switch to English.

Nothing he did or had happen to him was done whilst he was considered a saint.

I did my St. Patricking last night due to political shennanigans, feel like fucking death today.
My family always has corned beef and cabbage,

Why do other countries celebrate St. Patricks by eating rotten food? Corned beef and cabbage? Boke city. I made ravioli in a white sauce with ham and mushrooms, and I did it whilst pissed as a fart.

I spent a sunny afternoon meandering about the city, drinking on the deck of a boat bar, eating pierogies, and playing a TRON pinball machine. Classic St Paddy's day, yeah?

Well, I know for me it's because since most Irish (including my ancestors) who came to America around the potato famine were dirt poor, corned beef and cabbage was a pretty extravagant meal and so was used for holidays and the like.

We just keep up the tradition, now.
  • edited March 2012
Yeah.. It really is an Irish/American thing...
  • edited March 2012
It's nice how people celebrate it differently around the world I guess. I really suck at being an Irish person anyways so i'll defer to you lot on this.
