Tex Murphy Kickstarter

An IMPORTANT MESSAGE from "ChrisJones", administrator of the forum of The Unofficial Tex Murphy website (it's maybe the most important website for Tex Murphy) - presumibly speaking for Chris Jones himself :

Chris Jones acquired the rights for Tex Murphy back in the 2009.
Is his franchise ready for Kickstarter???? I think yes!!!!
We'll know tomorrow!!!!

Awesome. This has to happen. People had better donate because this is every bit as worthy as the DoubleFine adventure.

'Under a Killing Moon', 'The Pandora Directive' and 'Overseer' are amongst the greatest adventure games of all time. I only hope that they can raise enough money to maintain the FMV of the previous games.

    TEX MURPHY ON KICKSTARTER!!! :D

    Here's the link:

    Video Announcement:

    Hello FOT,

Well, as many of you have suspected (or possibly read in “GamesTM”) we are working on a new Tex Murphy game. (Better late than never, right?... right? )
We made a decision within the past few months that now was the time to complete the Tex Storyline. We could not wait any longer. We agreed that we needed to finish the story, although it had to be a more "modest" game design since Big Finish Games is a small gaming studio.

However, with the recent Kickstarter success stories for other Adventure Games - Double Fine Adventure & Wasteland 2 - we saw an opportunity to create a game of a larger scale. So, with that in mind, we hope to bring the next Tex Murphy game to an a much bigger, dare I say, epic level - More actors, locations, broader stories and yes - even meaningful, varied story paths. With these elements, we have a better chance of expanding the audience and a better chance of commercial success and continuation. All of this would allow us to make a true Adventure game with Immersive 3D world, Full Motion Video, and longer game play.
On May 15, we are going to launch a Kickstarter page to help raise funding for the project. As we prepare to film the Kickstarter video, we’re interested in feedback from you guys about what fundraising incentives you would like to see. Old Games? New Games? Tote Bags? T-Shirts, Posters, Artwork, Autographs, dinner for two? Dinner for three? Carl Kasell’s voice on your home answering machine? Let us know!

We also to get you involved in making the video. We want “Tex Murphy Testimonials” – written or video testimonials about what you loved about the prior games. We will incorporate some of these testimonials into our video and post others on our website or YouTube page.
If you would like to send us feedback or get involved, please fill out the form on Big Finish’s contact page: http://bigfinishgames.com/contact

Thank you for sticking with us! We've really appreciated your patience and loyalty and hope to give you guys an awesome game!

    Thanks,
    Chris

The youtube pitch video is awesome, everyone should watch it.

I guess now would be a good time to play the first two games which I got at GOG over two years ago. I think I may have at least thought about playing them back then but I guess I never got around to it. Before that my only experience with the series was getting a demo of Under a Killing Moon and then just trying to get it to run but I could never get it to work at all despite many attempts over a fair period of time.

Almost two months just until the launch? Bummer.

It was so cool to see Chris Jones playing the part of Tex Murphy again in the Kickstarter video. He's aged pretty darn well. Also, the news that if enough money is raised then they'll be going down the FMV route warms the cockles of my heart.

It actually concerns me slightly. I wonder whether such a pre-emptive press release will have a negative impact on the amount of funding received. Surely it would have been wise to announce the Kickstarter at the same time that it went live, in order to best cash in on the initial wave of excitement. Ho hum.

I think that their video was a announcement for an announcement really. I'm sure I saw something saying that they haven't film the actual kickstarter video yet (which makes sense as there is nothing about the game or how much money they need.) So I think this video is simply to get the word out and hype it up.

Check out this Tex Murphy testimonial video.

The last part of this video sent shivers down my spine (in a good way; like listening to a great piece of music that reaches your soul).

Little confused by the $50 Tier. Is it saying we get one GOG.com download PLUS all three of the games mentioned?

Just need to know so I can judge which tier to go for. :)

To me it says you can get one of the old games from GOG and you get 3 digital versions of the original posters for Overseer, Pandora Directive & UaKM.

Ah, somehow I missed the word 'posters'. Not quite sure how I did that!

Eh, I was gonna back this thing whatever. Some posters might be nice...

...yes, yeah, let's go with that.

Awesome. I think I'll be going for the $100 option.

Seeing Rook in the Kickstarter video made me punch the air with excitement. I hope they bring Louie back for the new game too, with his revolting menu of course!

    Tex is back, baby! Yeeeaaaaaahhhhhh!!!

Let's get Tex Murphy back on our screens! Sam and Max have returned. Guybrush has returns, surely Tex deserves a come back! Pledge your heart and soul out people :)

I love that the kickstarter model is working so well for adventure game veterans. I just had to pledge $100 for this one too. Boy, I sure hope my credit card can take the load.

And, hopefully no more come to kickstarter for a good while. I really think $500 is my limit.

Given I may soon be unemployed, I share your concern. Enough Kickstarters already! We're suffering from an overload of awesome causes to throw monies at!

You get one Tex game on GoG, and downloads of three non-Tex games by the developer, which aren't on GoG. Don't get too excited, they're kind of casual hidden object games more than real adventures, but they have some good puzzles.

Anyone who doesn't give to this is a bad person. The Tex Murphy games were amazing and have aged better than almost any 3D games of their time.

UPDATE: The Project Fedora Kickstarter just went over the 50% mark! We're halfway there and still have 25 days to go! If you haven't made your donation yet, there's still plenty of time -- not that you should wait! :) http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora

Telltale staff...I know some of you are Tex fans, too (https://twitter.com/#!/telltalegames/status/1479912470)! :) Hope we can count on you as well!

Now that I have funded this kickstarter it reminds me that I actually need to play the original series now! XD

I don't really like the tex games but still pledged $100.. But I am now thinking of dropping that considerably and giving extra money to two guys instead... I actually like their games and their kickstarter is not going as well.

Any donation amount helps get us closer to the goal -- thanks for your pledge! And I know that Tex fans wish good luck to the Two Guys From Andromeda, too!

In case you're worried about making it through all of the previous Tex games in order to enjoy 'Project Fedora,' the newest update from Aaron Conners might put you at ease!

But, still...you should play the older games either way. :) You won't regret it!

There's a great new interview with Chris Jones and Aaron Conners discussing the project. Check it out and consider pledging. Tex needs your help!

Tex fans are amazing. I'm so happy to see this doing well. Still got a ways to go, but it's looking pretty good right now.

For those of you keeping track, Project Fedora is now officially two-thirds of the way to meeting the funding goal! Still 17 days left to make your pledge -- but why wait?? :)

75% and counting. Looking good. Hopefully E3 doesn't derail things.

I'm way more excited about this than any other adventure game. Even though I liked the Space Quest games just as much as the Tex games, the Tex games always pushed the genre foreward, and the new SpaceVenture seems firmly stuck in the past (which also makes it appealing in its own right, but there are more adventure games like that).

I really want to see both, though.
  • edited June 2012
I never played the Tex Murphy games (I mainly played the other Sierra Quest games and Monkey Island) but I am keen to support this. It's just I really really want the SpaceVenture kickstarter to succeed. If it does then I'll be looking forward to supporting Tex Murphy. Oh and thanks to the current Tex Murphy supporters supporting SpaceVenture :)

I urge the members here to back this project if you haven't. The game will be GREAT and we still need 100 more backers if Tex will be released from his crazy clown kidnapper!

If you are a fan of adventure games, and want to see the return of another great game series from the late 80's to late 90's, come support the 6th game in the Tex Murphy series on Kickstarter. We are 82% funded with 10 days left. Now is the time to join up before you miss out. Pre-order the game for only $15, or if you like other goodies such as documentary videos, t-shirts, or shot glasses, there are plenty of options above the $15 tier to get a bunch of other cool stuff as well (including all 5 original Tex games). http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora

I believe in Tex Murphy so much, I pledged $10,000 to this campaign. I have also done some freelance advertizing for it and I should be able to do more after the minimal funding amount of $450K is reached.

UPDATE: Tex Murphy, Project Fedora is getting very close to being fully funded, just under 96% of the way there with 9 days left.

It's now funded. I can't wait for the game. :)
  • edited June 2012
A new Tex Murphy game is now a definite! If you'd told me that this would happen one year ago, I'd would have laughed in your face and called you a callus heartbreaking liar. Awesome source!
  • edited June 2012
We could still use some more funds for Tex Murphy for a more expended story and more recognizable actors. About 77k to go for highest stretch goal.
  • edited June 2012
I just pledged $115. Here's hoping that the project reaches its third stretch goal; a live orchestra for the music and a golf mini-game sounds pretty frickin' awesome.
  • edited June 2012
We still need help with some DELICIOUS stretch goals for the final few days.

    They are:

If we exceed funding by 10% ($495,000+): Additional story (including puzzles, gameplay, locations and characters) (ALREADY MET)

If we exceed funding by 20% ($540,000+): Port the game to additional platforms, provide Text translations for French, Italian, German, Spanish (English will already be included). Finally, more recognizable actors.

If we exceed funding by 30% ($585,000+): Another expansion of the story (including puzzles, gameplay, locations and characters), ingame golf game, and Live Orchestra for the games’ music.

So please pledge if you haven’t yet for a bigger, better game!

Tex Murphy is still working on our stretch goals to better the game. We are now under 72 hours to go and need about $57,000 more to make the best game possible. See the above post for the stretch goal additions and if you like adventure games, join us at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora

After lowering my pledge to SpaceVenture to $100 due to my credit card being maxed out, I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to do $100 for Tex. I completely forgot about my Paypal Bill Me Later Account! So, $100 went to Tex from me tonight. :) Yay for Paypal! :D
