I used my Steam key but it won't let me play

edited December 2012 in The Walking Dead
An error pops up saying i'm not authorized to access the game. Is this happening to anyone else? I sent a message to support but haven't heard anything back yet.

That indicates an issue with the parental controls on your user account. If you're the administrator on your account, you'll need to adjust your parental controls to allow M rated games.

If you are a Parent.... you should know how.

I know how to adjust those settings for Windows, and those are off so I know that's not it. If there are parental controls on Steam I can't find them. If you're not going to be helpful, why comment?

It's not the controls in Steam; it's built into Windows itself. You will need admin access on your to alter them. There's more information here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Set-up-Parental-Controls

You might want to try right-clicking the game's executable and then clicking Run As Administrator as well.

    My controls are off.

I just tried running it in compatibility mode. It said it was launching and then absolutely nothing happens.

What's the exact error message you're receiving when you launch the game normally?
  • edited April 2012
"Sorry, this account is not authorized to access this game." Then I press 'Ok' then another window pops up.
"The application has failed to initialize."

Yes, this is exactly what happened to me. I got the error after a black window/set-up. I never even made it to the menu.

Launching the game does nothing but give me false hope--hope in the form of a green border on Steam. Then it calls me names and slaps me to the ground, laughing at me and making me reevaluate my life in the cold, cold rain as it turns back to blue.

Telltale, please fix this ASAP. Though I'd like to mention that this is from buying the game on Steam, not through a key you guys sent out.

That sounds like the account you're logged in with doesn't have admin rights. Have you got more than one account set up on your computer?

Hi. I have exactly the same problem with The Walking Dead. I bought the game on Steam and it´s impossible to play it because of that error.
I have read all the topics related and the only solution I saw was to install another Windows system...
I don´t have more than one account set up on my computer and it´s an administrator one with no opition to change parental controls.

I am really dissapointed cause a bought my game and I am seeing that it´s impossible to fix that error and nobody in Telltale or Steam tries to fix it :(

PD- Sorry for my english, I´m not native.
