A zombie game.

edited June 2012 in The Walking Dead
What i would really like is a zombie apocalypse game where you have to survive kind of like they have to in the walking dead.
Except its a strategy game like the UFO/jagged alliance series.
Imagine a game where you took controll of all the walking dead characters, with their skills and flaws.

Find shelter, secure it, defend it against hordes, move on if the hordes overrun. Do rescue missions, search for food, water, ammo etc, recon missions and so on.

Does anyone know if such a game exist?

Perhaps not the right place to discuss this. But i think it would be a winner.
What do others think?

try project zomboid, its very early alpha (if that) so dont expect a gem, but its got loads of potential to be something like the walking dead (but not this game) http://projectzomboid.com/blog/ also i have no connection to this game at all except i occasionally play it lol

Indeed. He pretty much figured it out.
And he is right. Its a best seller waiting to be made.
X-com was a huge success, Jagged alliance was a huge success. Something similar with a zombie apocalypse? Oh ya.

A game such as the one the original poster asked for is being produced by an indie company. When will it be ready? Who knows. I've been waiting for about a year but I think it will be ready soon. I hope....

BTW, I have no affiliation to this game or the developer. I'm just another zomboholic scoping the net for good zombie games.

"Trapped Dead" is jagged alliance with zombies

Trapped dead is nothing but combat missions.
    Its pretty one dimensional.

Fort Zombie is another possibility though. Its got missions to secure food, weapons and ammo, and rescue survivors. Its got one shelter per map, that you have to defend against multiple zombie horde attacks, including buildable barricades and traps.

Theres also some very rudimentary npc interaction.

Its got 3 shelter maps currently, and they keep saying once they get the time they will be giving the game some love which could mean more maps.
Each map set consists of the town you go into for your missions, and the shelter you defend. The towns arent huge, but they are big enough to take a good amount of time to scavenge thru. And they reset for each mission.

Its a bit buggy, and can really run slow if your on a low end machine, and or during the zombie horde attacks. But its fun.

I don't think Dead State will ever get made. What about Dead Linger? http://www.thedeadlinger.com/ Has done well on Kick Starter and looks promising. Still, indie developers - while I wholeheartedly support them (bought Project Zomboid, etc) - are generally slow at getting games out. Understandably so.

Still waiting on that perfect zombie game, too. (Love TWD, but it's not the be all/end all zombie game we've been waiting for.)

Project Zomboid's probably your best bet for now. It is after all actually playable unlike Dead State which seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Project Zomboid has mod support I believe as well so the community makes some pretty cool addons that you can mess with during the downtime between updates. Fun game but a work in progress.

Trapped Dead is horrible. Project Zomboid creeps me out. There is no way to win. You WILL die! The goal is to put off death as long as you can. That may seem insignificant, but that simple little thought fills you with dread once you start playing. I've never played a game that made me feel hopeless. High recommended on these long nights in between TWD releases.

Is it single player or multiplayer?

    Trapped dead,single player
    Project zombiod,single player
    Fort Zombie,single player
    Dead State,single player

On Dead State, its now far more likely than not, it will make it to retail.Age of Decadence is about to go retail, after that is accomplished,Dead State is next. With people working on AoD going to work on Dead State.

Thanks for the heads up about dead linger, thats one i missed and have added it to my list.

There is DayZ mod. While it is not on the jagged alliance style of gaming, its a fps based on the Arma 2/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, it has almost everything you are describing minus missions but hey get enough people together you can think up your own missions plus you have the choice of hunting other survivors. And its still in Alpha so there is a lot to still be added. www.dayzmod.com

Well there is an online game just like that called 'Rebuild' (Of course not with the walking dead characters). Apart from that as others said there is Project Zomboid, Fort Zombie(Buggy last time i played it.) and Dead State(Not released). I searched for a LONG time to find a game that included exactly the things you're saying because i too want a game like that, unfortunately those were the only ones i found.

This sounds like it could be a smart phone app.

Remember those tomagoti things from the 90's? Think that but instead you have periodic survival activities to perform.

I bet someone from Zynga is reading this post and coming up with a "ZombieVille" game this instant. They'll give you a gun for free then offer microtransactions to sell you bullets.

That game is more like a giant deathmatch with a few zombies in it.

Obviously you guys haven't heard of The Dead Linger: http://www.thedeadlinger.com/

Basically it's meant to be the zombie game that a lot of zombie fans seem to be asking for. First person zombie survival.
