In issue 14 in a speech Rick is giving in the prison he mentions that they 'have taken to calling them zombies' and at a later point Dexter remark 'hey you do get used to calling them zombies'. This makes me think that zombies are quite popular fiction or else why would they feel stupid calling them zombies?
Actually that would make me think they are not "quite" popular fiction. If they feel it is silly to call them zombies, that would suggest their exposure to them in their culture would be less. Not as 'commonplace'.
I see your point but the way i was thinking that maybe popular fiction strongly establishes itself in your mind as being fiction. Thus causing people to find it harder to admit that these thing do exist.
Ok.. So we can suspend disbelief long enough to watch a show, read a book about the dead getting up and eating people but it's hard to do it long enough to believe the people in said book/show don't know anything about "zombies".
In the Walking Dead I assume there is no George Romero and there was no creation of the zombie as we know them.
Just replayed episode 1 while waiting and noticed Lee calls them walkers. I knows Ricks group on the tv show calls them that, and his group in the comics. Haven't read much of the comics. But does everyone in the Walking Dead universe call them that?
No, some people in the comics call them biters. It varies from group to group, and person to person, usually. There's no one universal name for them. Except maybe zombies :P
admittedly the comics been going off in a weird direction with it's last arc, I'm beginning to lose interest in the comic.
I'm slightly interested in what they'll do with the show since it very loosely follows the comic. and *spoilerspoilerspoiler*
As for the game, I think they just felt it'd be better than calling them Zombies to help give the walking dead "feel" to it.
Though I could have sworn one of the characters called them a zombie, but I was playing resident evil before that so I may be remembering the wrong game.
