PC crashes when I start TWD

edited August 2012 in Game Support
Hey guys,

So I finally picked up the walking dead because it looks like a really awesome epxeriance. Only when I start up the game my PC instantly crashes. The screen turns blue and then it restarts. Now this cant be good right.

I remember the first time I opend the game Avast noticed a threat, I ordered it to run in sandbox mode and tought it would be fine. Only it wasnt.. I have tried playing it without internet, I have added it to exeptions in my firewall and Avast data. I reinstalled it, multiple times. I have ran it as administrator and I have done everything in the FAQ thread on this site. Nothing seems to work.

Am I the only one that has this problem or are there people with solutions? Or maybe someone from the staff that can help me? Would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

Daniël

if you have a blue screen at start than it sounds like your operating system is corrupt u should reinstall a fresh copy of whatever operating system u have it could also be your hard drive but i would try the operating system first :)

Have you tried disabling avast while installing the game? If its reading a threat it could be deleting an important installation file.

Blue screen when you start it?

Have you tried upgrading your drivers?

Funnily enough, it happened to me too. I played one round of Walking Dead, and then the system had to run a chkdsk or something. Lost all my Walking Dead save games, but it's working fine now.

    *keeps fingers crossed*

i have avast and it didn't bother it till the 'connecting' issue but that was something else and was patched.

where did you get the game from ? steam or ttg direct ?

I dont have this problem with any other game. Are you sure that could be the problem?

I agree that having the system crashing like that sounds more like an issue with your drivers or even hardware.

If you post your dxdiag info i can take a look if i can find anything there as a first step.

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Open the file and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the contents, and paste them in a reply by pressing CTRL-V.
Sometimes the Forums spam filter catches long posts like this. Don't worry, we can still see them and make them visible.

I don't see anything obvious, but we can try some things.

First i would try updating the sound driver. If the download is as slow for you as it is for me right now though, feel free to do this last, so we can progress faster.

Do you have any non-ASCII characters in your Windows Username too?
In any case, please try creating a new user account with a simple name only containing a-z, and check if the game runs there.

If that doesn't help try running the game during a clean boot (see below) in the new account.

Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:
    1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
    2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
    3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
    4. Select the Services tab
    5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
    6. Click Disable all
    7. If running the game on Steam, re-check the "Steam Client Service"
    8. Click on OK
    9. Click Restart.
    10. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

    1. Click Start --> Type msconfig --> Press Enter
    2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
    3. Click Ok
    4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer

Have you tried disabling avast while installing the game? If its reading a threat it could be deleting an important installation file.

    How do u disable avast?
