Is this a game or a terribly boring movie?

edited July 2012 in The Walking Dead
Seriously, it looked like so much fun. I love the genre, but this is the most boring thing I've ever paid money for.

I wish they would give refunds. What a waste of money.

If you want a game where you have 500 bullets and the infected are a joke go play Left 4 Dead.

This game isn't for people who have no soul or emotion.

    Actually, it is.

Left 4 Dead was terrible too, just in different ways (mindless shooting).

But this is like a c grade movie where you click a choice to change the already terrible dialogue. Your snarky reply mentions emotion; the acting in this thing is devoid of it.

I suppose you didnt like this game?
    It happens.
But money back? Does any gaming company actually offers that if you dont like their product?

Actually yes. The only other time I requested a refund was from EA for SWTOR. The refunded my money, said that they were sorry that I wasn't happy with the game and sent me a coupon for their store.

That's solid customer service. TT is acting like some scumbag selling crap out of their trunk.

Are you serious with this thread or are you a terrible troll? Seriously.

If you don't like a videogame plot, go to watch some Romero's movie, for God's sake.

Don't read the comics or watch the show either.

Close the door at the exit.

Not trolling, just stating my opinion and asking serious questions. I spent the money, so it's really OK for me to discuss my experience on the forums, right?

It's partly my mistake for not noticing that the game is a horrible port from console to PC before spending the money. But it just feels like a very bad movie that you click through. There's really no payoff for clicking so why not just make an animated movie with real voice actors.

It seems that if they spent their energy on producing some good drama/action it might even be good. I suppose it took tons of energy to insert the 'walk around and click stuff' mechanic. It must have taken up all their budget.

Sorry man, but making a thread that is basically "so, does this game suck or does it suck really hard?" doesn't count as "asking serious questions".

I suppose you're right. The 'game' (and I use that term VERY loosely) sucks so hard that it makes the question rhetorical.

What's your favorite zombie movie/book/videogame? Out of curiosity.

Maybe you just don't like the genre...

At any case, there is no discussion here. It's boring for you, not for me. You don't give reasons either.

Besides you are trolling some other threads. I hope you will not spread more...

And then you want a refund.
Is 25$ alot for you? If so i can give you a hand out. How about 60 cents?

Hey, I bought Mass Effect 1 and 2 and I didn't like the game (but everybody does). I didn't go to Bioware's official forums to whining.

I didn't ask for a refund either only because the game "it's boring to me".

This game is for people that can actually appreciate the movie " The Night of the Living death 1990 "

Come on guys the game has one of the most wicked stories ever. Come on there's Cannibalism... Mark crawled to the dinning table without legs...
the game is awesome for any true Zombie, horror fan! Gotta use your mind and put yourself into the situation.

I understand you. This is the first and most likely the only game I will purchased from TT. I only got it because I am a fan of TWD :) Look you pay for what you get. This isn't a 60 dollar game where they could of polish the heck out of the game. To me it's worth it I have paid more for games that got hyped and were worthless. I took my lost. Now I do my research before spending any money on games. sucks you didn't like it.

Story is engaging as hell to me, forces me to make hard decisions, and I play like Lee is me. Would I lie to people or tell the truth? Who do I side with and will I make the "right" decisions because I am a good person or because I have ulterior motives and am making alternate routes to best suit my own survival.

Look at all the Duck and Clementine haters.

Duck haters have a point, although the teasers at the end of ep2 hint at some sort of character development.

Duck's only accomplishments so far are pinning a guy under a tractor and getting taken hostage at gunpoint.

This is one of the most immersive, emotional games I've ever played. The gameplay is slow-paced most of the time, and I think that is what makes the game so appealing. It's a survival-horror game that has a more realistic pace than other games of the same genre, and that's what draws you in and makes it believable.

There were times that I completely forgot I was playing a video game - at several points, I felt like I was Lee - I felt real sadness, anger, happiness and panic in different situations.

I've played almost a hundred video games by now, and I have to say this is easily one of the best I have ever played. I have never felt so emotionally involved in any story before in my entire life - video game or otherwise.

I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.

    No soul and emotion.

Duck is 10 years old. How hard is that to understand?
Not that long ago i heard people yap about how Duck was responsible for Shawns death.
Which goes to prove that most of the Duck haters must have Asbergers syndrome or some other personality disorder. Because they just dont understand that a 10 year old is not responsible for anything he does. Its just out of their reach to understand it. So ya, they must be as dumb as a bag of hammers. Except i doubt they are 10 years old.

^ I grew up on a farm, never pinned anyone underneath a tractor.

Also started wrestling /w my own mortality around 11. That kid's developmentally delayed, plain and simple, he should have at least *some* sense of cause and effect. Clem's leaps and bounds ahead of him and she's only 8.

I like TTG writers and expect them to do something great with the kid eventually, but for now there's nothing likeable.

That's exactly my point. In between the pixel hunt, facebook game clicking, I forgot I was supposed to be playing an engaging, well made game and thought I was watching a really boring movie.

And no, it only takes a 1/2 hour for me to make $25 dollars.

And there's no need to counter troll. I can see that some people really like this (which baffles me), and that's great. It's funny that the the reasons I dislike it are the things that people like.

    My view is this:
    Graphic style: bad.
    Story: Told poorly/not engaging.
Interface: I can't imagine it being any worse. No mouse inversion or key remapping.
Dialogue: It feels like your choices are just thrown to give you something to do while the B movie plays on.

These are the reasons I find it lacking. No trolling, really.

I notice you didn't say graphics, but graphic style. It's a purely subjective statement.

I can imagine the full qwerty/action key interface of a roguelike. Now that would suck.

As far as story and dialog goes, this is among the best writing and attention to detail in the biz. You need to compare it to something you actually like for us to infer anything from that statement.

Maybe adventure games just aren't your thing? I don't know, that's all I can think of.

What people fail to realize is that this entire brand of zombie apocalypse (The Walking Dead) is not solely just about the zombies vs. people like every other brand in the zombie genre. The Walking Dead (show, comics, and game) are about the survivors and how they, in turn, react in such a horrible situation. The brand focuses on what the people are doing, thinking, acting, changing, adapting to the situation of being thrown into a world that is unlike anything they have seen before. Imo, Walking Dead is all about progressing characters and showing their life first, along with awesome zombie scenes. Think about the most memorable character developments in the brand (Daryl Dixon, Rick, Shane, and now Kenny.) All have become something they would never have dreamed post apocalypse.

You want a game with pretty neat graphics, gore, violence, but the storyline is purely retarded, try Dead Island.

    That will do, Pig.

That's the point. This story is boring drivel. You fans act like this is Heinlein or Le Guin. It's one dimensional tripe executed to please teenage fan boys. How it even does this is amazing.

Duck. Really? His dad? Really? His description of his son fits this game as a whole: "about as smart as a bag of hammers".

There are great games with great graphics out there. They consider that a starting point (dead island is not one of them). Then they build from there. TT took an ok story and destroyed it by putting it into a facebook style game. Maybe they're hoping to sell it to zynga and have them port it to flash.

No need for names. You sound like you have the ability to have a discussion without it.

Different people have different tastes. You don't like the game, and that's understandable - you just weren't the game's target audience.

TT has decided to make a more original game, and that's a good thing. Just copying from 'other games with great graphics' will just give us the same clone games year after year with nothing new. Do you really want that?

And are you seriously saying that graphics are the primary factor you look for when you buy a game? Please tell me I read that wrong.

Now, I have no knowledge of facebook games - I almost never use facebook, but I see no problem with the game's style. Their target audience includes people who have read the comics, which is why they've used cell shading.

It's more like a comic book in video game form.

Why do you guys even discuss with posts like that? It's quite obvious that this guy didn't came here to critique anything, just to show how cool and edgy he is because he doesn't like what the majority likes. And better yet he is doing it on the official forum, where most of the users are fans of the game. So don't feed the troll, he is just trying to piss you off. Altough at least from what I see he is not doing a very good job.

I happen to agree with you on every point Analyst. I keep thinking that I must be missing something because all of the people here are raving about how great this game is.

Your description of it being a boring movie rather than a video game is spot on. And I do like a wide range of games, from the mindless killing in games like Left4Dead to games that many would find boring like Portal or Limbo. There is absolutely no excitement in this game, I find my mind drifting constantly while the movie plays, just waiting for there to be a sign that I need to do something.

To coin a paraphrase: It's hours of boredom, punctuated by stark moments of....more boredom.

Honest question for you.. what is it you DO like in video games? So far you've trashed 3 Titles ( L4d, TWDG, as well as SWKOR) and have yet to compare it to any positive gaming experience youve had. I beleive thats straight up trolling as you've not said one constructive thing , but rather you think every aspect of this game and all zombie games suck apparently and that the people who do like twdg are a bunch of teen age fan boys .. ( grossly false btw) and also that you whine to get your money back. Thats a pretty accurate synopsis of like 10 posts that youve been talking badly about the game. If you want your money back sure, ur entitled to feel that way. But to come troll a game thats TONS of people enjoy and discussing without adding any substance to the convo is indeed trolling. so plz gtfo or bring a reason other than you think its a boring game to the table.
