'Please be lucky.'

edited July 2012 in The Walking Dead
Is the most nonsensical lines in the whole game. Whether luck exist or not is a philosophical question, but if so who makes their own luck? I wish they never made Clem say such a bizarre thing.

It did sounda bit weird. But how old is she?
  • edited June 2012
    Supposedly eight.
  • edited June 2012
I didn't find that weird at all. She just wants Lee to be okay. That's why she says to him to be lucky and not get hurt or something...

Not at all. People say "good luck" all the time.. for an eight year old, it seems perfectly normal to me.

That comes from the conversation in the swing. They speak about not being hurt because of "being lucky". Lee said that he has luck since he knows her.

After that she wishes to him "to be lucky".

"Be lucky" = "Don't be hurt"

Clementine it's the sweetiest thing. I want to adopt her.

What's wrong with be careful? I have never heard anyone tell someone else to "be lucky". It's like nails on a chalkboard.

Because that's a reference to the conversation they had before, nothing else.

It's a "customized good wish" to Lee. :p

^ Yeah this. Made perfect sense to me. It was an obvious callback to the previous conversation.

I can’t see a problem with that sentence.

You said Mark was lucky to return “safe” after the ambush so when she says “be lucky” she is actually saying “return safe”.

Is not just “cute” but also a smart use of words.

Im going to guess that either Mr. Wok is trolling or his conversation with Clem didn't have them talking about being lucky

Its exactly the kind of thing a worried child would say.. it really doesn't matter if it makes sense.. Lee knows what she is saying and its a sweet little scene.

Maybe its because I have children and can relate?

It's definitely a cute reference to their earlier conversation. Clementine just likes to adopt words and phrases that Lee uses. It's like their own little code. If you tell Clementine that Hershel's barn smells like "shit" in Episode 1, she says the same thing about the Brothers' barn to Lee in Episode 2 (which was really cute, but it prompted a really nasty look from Katjaa).

Out of curiosity, I just checked to see if she still says "Please be lucky" if you leave with Danny without talking to her on the swing (because that would be confusing), but she doesn't. She still runs up to Lee, but he ignores her, and she's just left staring sadly at the ground. It's a little heart-breaking.

I don't even like kids and I thought it was cute. XD

Generally speaking I like when people twist common words and phrases into new meanings. Clem might make a decent rapper one day...

    60 Cent.

No, sorry, I was wrong, that was going to be Larry's. A promising career, cut short...

To me she was basically saying "come back safe". Not a big deal and I actually thought it was pretty cute.

Another Clementine rap name: "Clem de la Clem"

Lee: "Clementine, did you lick (the salt lick)?

Clementine: (long pause)... I don't know?

    Sweetest thing ever! LOL

I cracked up laughing at that.

They make Clem very likeable so that "protecting" her becomes second nature to the player.

Now what they need to do is start to have the player make some gut wrenching decision involving Clem.

I tried doing a playthrough where Lee didn't think Clem was his problem and ignores her for the most part. I failed.

I am pretty sure Clementine said 'be lucky' to refer to when Lee said that when Mark got shot by an arrow in the shoulder that 'he got lucky'. So what she meant is she wants Lee to be as lucky as Mark was (as in not to die). Also, she's fucking eight and she's a first grader.

I think they did amazing job with Clementine. You really feel like her father, you want to protect her, take good care of her and be a moral example to her.
On the other hand, Clem doesnt feel like just a burden on your leg. She has strong personality and can be very helpful. So behind that cute look and cute talk, you can see a real person growing up.

if you swing her at the tree you mention to her you survived the ambush at the fence cause you were lucky, that's all.

She is a child FFS... So it is normal to me...

This is one of the silliest complaints I've read about since I was over at the Dragon Age forums and someone complained about the character's lack of lip moisture. Such concern over dry chapped lips.
