How do you like you zombie fiction?

edited July 2012 in The Walking Dead
Your zombie fiction!, YOUR dammit, can't edit the title. Oh well.

I love the walking dead, the game, the show the comic, all of it. I have noticed that many of the comments I see regarding the series, or most other zombie franchises, are usually in the vein of "Why did they do that? I would have done this is instead." Personally I love the character flaws and the sometimes poor decision making, If we're being realistic then these things are necessary, the heat of the moment, hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

So I guess what I want to know is 2 things, do you prefer your zombie media to involve struggling flawed human being characters or do you want to see a super-man make mostly perfect choices and truly be a hero?

If you are the type of person who posts on forums saying "Why did they do that? I would have done this is instead." Is it because you just want to share your idea or is it because you think the story would have been better if they did that?

I am really curious about this and I'm not trying to say my way is the right way. Thanks for your time.

*looks like Clementine in the barn when asked about the salt lick* I dunno.

But seriously I share my thoughts Ideas and opinions because my limited attention span keeps me from creating my own works and sharing them with the public.

    I prefer zombie non-fiction.

I like zombie fiction simply because of the fact that the main threat is not the zombies themselves, but the humans who try to survive.

I prefer media (this includes non-zombie stuff) that has the big looming threat take a back seat. It focuses on the people in that situation and how they are dealing with it. How does the fact the world just ended affect you? Do you turn into a coward, a thief, or a leader, or something in-between?

It's always about realistic people in an unrealistic situation. Real people make mistakes, they stumble, they fall. Sometimes they make good decisions, and sometimes there aren't any good decisions to make.

It's an exploration of the human condition.

I personally hate media that has characters that can do no wrong. That just magically have all the answers. They aren't real. One of my biggest gripes with media today are 2-dimentional characters.

Now I know that eventually the story has to deal with the looming threat, but it's such a small part of the overall story. And really, if you think about it, it's a small story to begin with. A big threat appears. Characters find out how to defeat it. Characters defeat it. That's it.

Joss Whedon seems to do this extremely well. Just look at Buffy. How much screen time was spent actually slaying the monster? Almost none. Most of the time was spent with Buffy and her family and friends dealing with the situation on an emotional level.

I don't know but this reminds of the guy that sniffed bath salts

In answering the OP's question, I think it just depends on what I'm looking for at the time. If I really just want to shut off my brain and not think about it, I'll watch those b-rated zombie flicks that totally suck balls or play a game life Left 4 Dead to my zombie fill for the week.

If I'm looking for something to really engage myself in and go through all that contemplation stuff and everything, that's when I decide to watch (or read) stuff like the Walking Dead or Dawn of the Dead.

But what I really enjoy are the comedies. Always love it when you take the horror genre and make it a comedy, it's literally the best of both worlds.
